Ok, all this started today, not long ago now. I was playing a TFC match, when low and behold, my Intellimouse decides to flip out, but not the usual psycho spin, oh no, it went a step further. During play, my mouse was dropping, meaning, for moments of time, I'd be w/o the ability to move with my mouse, asdw only for me. It continued to pick up and drop, as it pleased. Then Windows decides to say, "Hey! Do you know what? I've just found a new piece of hardware connected to your usb port! That's right! I'm picking up your intellimouse again! Hey, don't you think it would be great fun to reinstall it automatically? Hey-ho! Let's give it a go!" much to my joy...

So that was screwed, restart didn't do anything, mouse either not picked up (i.e. no red light on mouse) or, in those periods it would decided to taunt me and flash on and off eratically, working for infrequent periods of time.

I've tried reinstalling, plugging the mouse back in, not tried ps2 port, since I've carefully misplaced the adaptor.

This was when I discovered problem 2. After doubling up my mice, so I now have 2 plugged in, usb and ps2, I discovered that my computer enjoys to freeze for a while on me, say when opening a folder, playing an mp3, or accessing a website, pressing a button, it will freeze for a second or two, perhaps longer if it feels like it and that's that. The mouse cursor is still functioning (in that it will move and several clicks on the 'back' button are registered, only it'll go back so many pages once done freezing).

I have done a virus scan, nothing came up, I've restarted several times (due to my intellimouse episode) so it's not a RAM problem (I've got 256).

So does ANYONE, have an answer to either of these problems

Perhaps my mouse has crashed? It likes to flicker when I pick it up.

Disconnect one of the mice. You don't want two attached as that won't help troubleshooting.

Sounds like a crapped-out mouse or (more likely) a problem with the USB port. Firstly, reinstall the USB drivers, preferably using updated ones from your mobo website.

Have you tried using a different USB port (if you have one)? Tried a different device (joystick etc) on the same port to see if that suffers similar problems?

If you're running Win2000 you should have a nice entry in the System Log after these lockups. Any joy there?

Ideally you'll be able to get hold of a different, working USB mouse and see if the problem remains with the new one. At least then you'll know if it's the port or the mouse.

Intellimice

Mine broke

I went thorugh a long task of repairing it and found that most of the 'ickle cables had broken inside the grey cable,

So I gently pulled them til all the broke ones were out then cust the cable back to the good part re-soldered on the board and it worked fine eventually (with some fine tuning) :)

I then bought a new one and took the old one to work

On a barely related note nice new MS Keyboard:

I quite liked it.. but it doesn't have a USB port like my current one :(

Ok, narrowed it down a bit, I get my computer freezes when I move my dead mouse, I got a 'detected new hardware' when I disconnected it, that was after I tried using hte second usb port (no joy).
