HELP: Cabalist Pet Question

I just started a cabalist. Mainly cuz noone else plays it, so why not try something new. Migth gimp myself - and then again maybee discover a new uberclass. Anyway Oxz is great fun to play

But...

I a bit confused about the buffs of my pet. Can someone help me. Maybee give me a run down of the different buffs - and in the process answer the following:

- why does my pet start with a +life buff on it?
- why cant I see on the pet when buffed with Earthen Burst from wiz or theu?
- how does the focus shield work?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Dina, the pets can be a bit confusing but once you get the hang of it you'll never want to be without one

The first simu you get (amber) is basically a tank, it casts a con buff on itselfs and procs a decent length stun.

I could tell you about the others if you'd like? let me know, but you'll find the amber to be useful if you ever go RvR, that stun can give you plenty of time to DOT and run away

As far as the earthen buff thing goes, i can't remember if i can normally see them, tho at the moment i have 6 buffs i put on the pet myself and so theres no room for any more to be displayed anyway. You just have to have faith that it worked...

The damage shield works by doing a set rate of damage per second, which goes up as you get more powerful shields.
It's great for getting aggro, I'm a matter/spirit cabalist and so i need my pet to get the aggro before I DOT. Usually i find my target, put up damage shield and send in the pet. Just remember you cant move or cast with the shield up, if you wanna cast something else move first to break concentration as if you try to cast you have to wait 6 seconds before you can do anything. The pet normally gets an orange mob down to about 3/4 health pretty quick. Then you break dmg shield, cast a DOT, throw a heal on the pet and put your shield back up. This routine will normally allow you to solo 2 oranges or 3/4 yellows before resting.

edit: one thing i forgot to mention, you may know this alredy but if you right click the buff icon in your spell list or quickbar and press shift-I it tells you what stats are raised by the buff and by how much.

See what happens when i talk about cabbys? I waffle on like an idiot...

Use Amber until you get Sapphire at 12 - Ruby is more or less useless.

You will probably find that whatever level you are, you will use sappy for solo, as he lasts the longest.

In a group, I use Emerald or Jade unless Im likely to be low on power, then I use Amber.

As soon as possible, get 3 spirit, whatever you're final spec is going to be, as you can use this to gain pow fast :
Cast amber pet and Reclaim Spirit - this gives back about 10% more pow than it uses to cast. This means a cabby can have very little downtime.

You will soon find you can solo yellows with ease, oranges fairly reliably and even some reds, although yellows/low orange give the best xp to downtime ratio

Thats a spell the amber casts on itself.

That's a bug - I also found the pet died faster if buffed by wiz/theurg - wierd but that's what I had :/

The focus shield is a matter spec's main weapon in PvE. Once you cast this, you cannot move or cast or you lose focus.
The shield reflects a large amount of damage back to whatver hits the pet, almost as if a red con was hitting it back.
If you move slightly, or try to cast, the shield drops, and you cannot cast anything for 5 secs - so always take a decant size step back, or sidestep - as this breaks the shield and lets you cast immediately.

One great tactic is to find a spawn of green aggros. Send sapphire in and sit back
Sapphire procs a lifedrain that is a DD on the mob, and also heals the pet.
If the pets getting low, cast dam shield or cast a sim heal and sit down again.
I usually find I can do 10-15 greens before I need to recast the pet

Can you do the thing where you kill loads of greens at your level? i used to do it at lower levels but havent tried it since about 16 and it worked wonders
