Right,

It's a month until I move into my new build, and i've been trying to find a kitchen table that'll match my cherry wood units - but I can't find a suitable cherry wood table anywhere on the web (including the obvious like Ikea and MFI). I'm starting to regret getting cherry and should have got birch or beech.

I can find plenty of large or very expensive tables, or classic carved looking things, but ideally i'm looking for something very simple and basic like this:

cherry.jpg

The table must be square.
The table must be cherry, or a stained reddy/dark brown colour.
The table must be about one square metre.
The table must be cheap.

I can find beech, oak, dark oak, white, black, pine, birch - but no fucking cherry (or honey, which is close).

Can anyone help? Can anyone find one on the web?

I don't know how it applies to other places but Ikea's site has a fraction of what it has in an actual store. Or do you specifically need to get it online?

I've tried Ikea's store, the closest they come is a self-stain table - i suppose i could get a cherry stain for it.

Do that. It costs about 16 quid.

G - I think you may be wise to consider something different to tone with the existing wood - in my experience trying to match colours with staining or buying from a different line is always dodgy.

or get a glass table - helps give the impression that the room is still bigger than it actually is

I'd wait until you are moved in. Probably find they've fluffed it all up and you get something else entirely.

I'm moving in the not so distant future too and trying not to get too excited about it. :D

Stained wood will not match veneered wood. I'm presuming that your cabinets are veneered, if so don't even bother mucking around with stain. Go to a furniture wholesale place (plenty around if you look), you'll likely find what you need in there. If you don't, they'll make you one up.

Good idea actually, the other themes in the kitchen are black work surfaces and stainless steel oven/splashback/hob and "silver" fridge freezer - so i could get away with glass/stainless steel.

As long as it's flat and has a generous horizontal surface space, buy it. Who gives a f**k if it dont match any of ya other furniture. tell any critics (AKA in-laws) to CTFOADOA. As long as you are happy with it.

Sorry, had a v bad day and V drunk.

Alas, ebay comes to the rescue again:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4471684951#

£210 delivered.

It's glass (as Laz suggested) so there is no worries about matching colours and it won't drown out the kitchen for space being 90cm wide. I like the modern lines on it with the black marble base (which will match the black tiled floor and black work tops) and the seats (although faux leather) again matching the black.

It looks nice and modern, it appeals to my yuppie attitude and doesn't look too "granny".

What do you think?

Glass tables are a headache. Every time you drop something slightly too high onto it, you'll cringe.

Not bad at all...even if you can't throw the misses over it but then you can always use the chairs instead...

Probably. Girlfriend loves/approves it, nice n modern and fits with the decor - and since she is the giver of suck jobs - it gets bought.

Hey if you like it G then go for it, but myself I'm on Ch3t's side. I just don't like glass tables, they're trouble. Like trampolines, but worse.

There really isn't much else out there, it's all variations of glass or variations of different colours of wood.

I personally think the chairs look horrible, but that the glass tables okay. I'm not a fan of glass tables though, i just cant help think smashed window. Altho I do like that V8 coffee table :p

But of course opinions are personal and having not seen your kitchen couldnt comment on how i'd fit in :p

well, we have had a glass table in our kitchen for well on 2 years with absolutely no problems.

Mind you, our chairs are a little less imposing than those ones Big G.

glass? no way, feart of it tbh, though it was my fault for juggling a billiards ball and two oranges while stoned. guess which one I dropped on the table? not fun standing on bare feet in a room the floor of which was covered wall to wall in broken glass o0

Glass tables give me wood at the prospect of viewing the Mrs pressing body parts against it, so i can see them from below.

hehe :) if squashed baps and arse cheeks do it for ya? :D

Yep glass tables in general are a winner imo. I can't access Ebay from here to look at your choice of table tho.

My pants are self stained.

Hope this helps.

I shagged a bird on an ironing board once, man she must of been light and funnily enough I couldn't tell the difference between her chest and the ironing board when we were done.
