Hellraiser 1 and 2 wre fantastic tho strange,hellraiser 3 sucked ass and hellraiser 4 has just arrived in my video shop,leant it me m8 so i havent watched it yet but will let u know when i do(timecodes rule).Oh yeah u know the fat demon in hellraiser 1 and 2 well theres a bloke who comes in my shop whos the spitting image of him and he smells like death as well,u can actually smell his nads!!

Oh yeah event horizon was fooking brill,me girlfriend wudnt take the dog out after watching it(it was in space ffs),the first film that "bothered"me was one called the brood,that was sum scary shit when u r 10!

Yet everyone seems to have forgotten "IT", apart from THEworst ending in a film EVER, it had a good fear factor that kept me entertained throughout.

And Hellraiser is *crap*

C4 was cool last night. Two movies written by two of my favourite all time authors.

Phantoms was pretty good. Read the Koontz book, didn't know they made it into a film, very well done IMHO. Peter O'Toole was superb.

Hellraiser II was it's usual excellent self. Seen (and read) the Hellraiser series so many times now I could almost narrate the script along with it, Clive Barker is a demigod. Those who say Hellraiser is crap are probably expecting the wrong end result from it. The series is a fantasy/thriller/horror, not a plain shock thriller. And if you reach that conclusion from just watching the films and not reading the books then shame on you

Someone mentioned Audition earlier in the thread, that film rocks! It's like a Chinese Cronenberg. Excellent imho.

(Heh, I keep editing this post to put more bits in.. you really tapped into one of my obsessions ) I was very impressed by Event Horizon. Scared the bejesus out of me at the cinema, and loved every minute. Despite the fact it's directed by one my favourite directors (P.T. Anderson) I loved the whole 'gothic' feel to the ship, despite it being so state of the art. The whole atmosphere of this massive black ship, floating like some spacefaring Marie Celeste above Neptune is really overbearing. Apparently the pre-release edit was 2 hours long and was a lot more psychologial-thriller than shock-thriller. Real shame the studios decided to trim it :/

Yep, it was under the old 'Screenone' banner the BBC used to apply to it's own dramas. The Radio Times entry made this clear, but I can see how someone could think it was real if they'd just happened to switch to BBC1 halfway through it.

I seem to remember hearing about some kid who got so freaked by it they hung themselves, but the cynic in me tends to believe this was more likely to be some media hype. Plus, it all got a bit silly towards the end, most people should've concluded it was fake at that point

Back in my younger days I used to be a member of a Ghost-hunting Society, we'd visit scary places and stake them out, being the techie I'd help set up lots of monitoring equipment, we even had a Geiger Counter and X-Ray Detector !

I've spent many a cold night in a graveyard or haunted house, I've yet to see a ghost though.

Scariest place by far was Borley Rectory, in Essex, reputed to be the most haunted place in the world it certainly gave me the creeps, and that was during the daytime, I never got round to staying the entire night there.

There's an old Saxon Church somewhere close to Borley, right out in the middle of a field, our group stayed the night there and that was terrifying. Some medievil christian group had been using the place beforehand and left a weird atmosphere in the place.

I always remember going back to the car down this long dark lane on my own because one of the group forgot his bag of equipment, it was about 3am, freezing cold and almost pitch black, one of the group rallied my spirits with a tale of a headless horseman on the lane back to the car park (b*stard), I got the bag and on the way back I decided to sling it over my shoulder, in doing so I activated a "talking clock" device inside and the sudden voice nearly scared me sh*tless !

Having done the "real thing", most horror movies tend to bore me.

the film that freaked me out when I first saw it was alien. that atmos'fear wooo.
oh and...um I think it was 'the omen'...there's a bit where the old priest snaps and runs outside the church. the spire, a cross, breaks off in the storm iirc...inverts itself, falls down and spears him. eek! I hate it when religion gets added to good oldfashioned scariness

see EH in the cinema if possible. It doesnt cut it on the TV screen - unless your at home with no interruptions from anyone. Plus its ok to go and make a cuppa if your too scared

the "unedited/directors cut" version of it is available, where I don't know but I'd love to see it.

The thing that made me realise it was fake was the same thing that makes me think the moon landings were fake. A supposedly fixed camera was zooming and panning in the girls bedroom whilest they were being attacked.

I've also experienced the real thing but not purposely. Me and a bunch of friends really did get lost in a nature reserve in the LInconshire area and it got dark, we found ourselves in a graveyard miles from civilisation and had to shelter in an old creaky house when it started to rain. I've never been so scared in all my life and even now as I recall the howling wind and strange bumps it send a shiver down my spine. I keep looking over my shoulder as I type this.

Much like the time me and my friends used to badger this old lady in her big scary house that was between us and the next estate. However, one day she died, there was a huge procession from the house to the local church and the house was left alone for a year or so afterwards. Then we went back to see if anyone had moved in yet and for the first time we rode up the driveway. Next to the house round the back and covered in trees was what looked like a mini ccrypt. All churchy looking, stone crucifixes etc. Our attention is directed to a huge fucking conker tree right next to it so we set about climbing the tree to get the conkers down. we're poking around when we hear a sound from the house like a door unlocking and a huge thud. Obviously we pegged it and running up that driveway I turn round to look at the house and standing in the huge window is the old lady with a dog. She was kind of merged into the house and covered in shadow but not and had a particularly evil look on her face. The dog however, just regally sat next to her.

Never went back there again in my life and if I ever go home to see the folks I avoid going past that house like the plague.

I just got round to re-watching it after taping it when it was on. I liked it even more than I remembered!
I totally agree with your comment about the type of film it is; I think the fear-factor came from it being so bizarre and twisted, with the immersive settings and the alien world's obsure connection with earth. Quite obscure and subtle, though; there were some little things that made it so disturbing that I can't quite put my hand on...

Anyway, loved it

Anyone rmember the tv programme called "Thriller" that had some very scary stuff indeed. There was one about some guy murdering people and burying then in the basement under concrete...with some ghostly shinanigins as a result haunting him...bit disturbing at the age of 9.

Thank god there wasn't a nine o'clock watershed in those days...lol

I saw Hellraiser: Bloodline recently and it was complete bollocks. Did anyone watch 'Fear', on about 3 weeks ago. I thought it was quite funny :/
