No, no he isn't. The legislation has only just (within the last couple of days) become law in Greece. The story has been touted before yes, but that was only while the bill was under consideration.

Edit: Sorry, being a pedantic bastard today for some reason, it'll pass.

Apparently it's going to stop gambling...

One wonders why, if they wanted to stop gambling, they didn't make gambling illegal?

Probably because gambling is often referred to as 'gaming'... I know that in South Africa, they made gambling illegal, so what people did was this - Go to a casino type place (not called a casino) and buy sweets at around R10 each (when the sweets were worth like 5 cents) then play roulette / black-jack with the sweets, and sell back what they won at the end of the evening... Therefore, no actual money was being gambled, so the peeps just leapt through the legal loophole like dolphins on show... sod all the cops could do about it...

Pretty dire situation. They must have some complete fucktards making laws over there.

Why don't they drive across a border for the CPL qualifier?

I'm thinking, will secret gaming halls pop-up. Much like the "speakeasys" of prohibition USA? just think of it.....

a man walks down the dark passage up to a sturdy wooden door with a small hatch cut into it, about head hight

Door-Man:- Hello, whats the password?

Man:- ummm......l337

Door-Man:- Correct!

The Doorman opens the door

on a serious note, though, it does seem wierd that they've not banned gambling but tried to stop it happening anywhere where they're not going to make loads of money out of it.... :/

I find it staggering.

I can't see how this can work on a practical level.

Once broadband becomes more widespread in Greece, people will simply download their games (as this option also becomes more widely available) and almost secret-societies will be formed.

It seems absolutely fucking ridiculous that a kid can't bring his game boy over on holiday.

Will my mobile be outlawed in this country just cos it has "Snake" on it?

All copies of windows come with games built in. And as TTD mentioned, even Excel has easter egg games in it.

All copies of DVD's will be restricted. The latest release of "Predator" has a playable demo of AVP2 on it. Will disks like this be banned?

It seems ludicrous. It'll cripple gaming companies in Greece, not to mention ISPs that charge per min etc.

Games consoles are all now illegally owned!

Crazy, just crazy! I can't see the whole practical side of this working at all. There'll be raids on illegal lan parties set up in remote locations in the mountains etc etc.

Fucking retarded Greek government. And I thought the UK was bad....

I dont think how realise how far they will take it.

Its even ilegal to own Windows as it is shipped with usual games that only secretaries play...you can include Linux too.

Any computer related gameage whatsoever is banned.
