as much as I applaud the technical breakthrough it does take a bit of zing out of climbing Everest imo. soon there will be day-trips to the south pole. oh...wait...:/

I dont think it takes any zing out of climbing everest. Its still an enormous achievement regardless of the fact a helicopter can fly up there now.

Its like saying sailing around the world has less zing cos you can take a plane a lot quicker...

hehe, a few years back me and Mrs Wil were in Corfu. We rented a jeepy 4x4 thing and decided to climb the highest peak we could find. After an hour in the lowest gear in 4x4 mode, we parked where we thought no car had ever been before and begun to get jiggy when to our utter suprise, a coach full of tourist's came trundling past!!!

I remember "getting jiggy" with an ex, on an old country lane near where I used to live. I couldn't believe how many cars came past! I swear the same car came past 3 times at one point
