i really need help
k soo i donwloaded the mod version 1.3 and the HL patch
now its reallly slow i cant seem 2 get past the connection screen.
previously wif 1.1 (retail) it worked fine... even on my 56k
now it doesnt...... so i was wondering if ne1could help me pls

I trust you didnt try and install the mod version patch or the HL patch over your CS retail install?

For CS retail you should only download and install either cs1003.exe (full 1.3 install) or cs10021003.exe (Retail 1.2 -> 1.3).

The HL engine patch is included in the CS retail upgrade files.

That's a little vague really. Can you give us any more information than it's really slow - what does the console say when it stops, or just where is it slowing down?

i had the RETAIL version soooo i got it, downloaded it.

when i came 2 install it was trying 2 install onto the D: drive. ???????? i dunno y
NE way i changed the directory 2 the correct 1.. BUT the program said it was an invalid directory.
i tried several times 2 no avail. sometimes it said i had the wrong language.................

Any way it is placed as FULL INSTALL on b.world not UPDATE
sooo stupid as i am i downloaded the MOD ver an it installed fine....
but know it doesnt work.....

can you try and be clear? I've no idea what what you just typed means.


You have CS Retail *and* the mod version installed? What's D drive got to do with it?


I recomend you totally uninstall EVERYTHING, then if you have CS Retail (not HL and the mod download) then reinstall that from scratch, and apply just the CS REtail patch.

OK - I think I can understand all that gibberish - here goes.

As natrat said, un-install the lot. You've messed up, so begin from scratch.

Install your retail version. Now download this file and this much smaller file and aim them at the correct place - i think they want to go in your main Counter-Strike directory, but read them, just in case I am wrong.

Now send me a big thank you present.

Just install into the default directory on install, then when the pacth asks you simply change the drive letter if you installed to a different drive.

but

u cant uninstall CS from the Add Remove application
soo i deleted it but obviously that didnt quite have the same effect
now i have files scatterd all round my hard drive

I meant that when i came to install the 1.3 retail version the program was trying to install it in to this directory:

D:\FAIL

so i changed it so it read...

C:\sierra\halflife\cstrike
clicked ok

yet the program said it was an invaild directory... WHICH it wasnt caus that is were CS is installed on my CPU

Also on different occasion the program said that i was trying to install the incorrect language version!!!!!

just to be sure
u reccomend that i uninstall everything i have to do with HL
load Hl back on an CS retail 1.1
THEN install the RETAIL upgrade
an the RETAIL fix

yes do that.

Just to be sure, when i say CS retail, i mean the standalone boxed Counter-Strike you buy in a shop, not the game Half-Life with the downloaded mod.

DOnt install HL and retail CS, you dont need both.

i uninstalled every thing too do wif HL
installed just the retail box version1.1


(i downloded the RETAIL tho)

went to install the RETAIL FULL INSTALL 1.3

the same problem

.....u r trying to install to an invalid directory..........

Any hows it is a full install not an update

so now i am gonna try the HL an MOD wifout the RETAIL installed
to c if that works




if all else fail i will format my CPu and start from scratch
completely

I have no idea what he's done, maybe the 1.1 full lets u install without finding the necessarry files already there?

Anyway, if you have your HL cd install HL, then d/l the cs .13 mod version full patch (its 100 meg). Install this and u will be fine.

If you have three cd's, OP,CS and HL, then install the CS one from the CD and get the RETAIl 1003 full patch (78 meg). Either way will work fine unless you are jsut a pirate.

I installed Hl and the latest patch and then the MOD (100mg)

yet still i can not get past the

server build 1785 on the connection screen


also i did have the RETAIL patch last time and it seemed to work fine even withought me actually having to buy it????????
WIERD any way

after all of this it is prob just my connectioon

but i still dont get y it doesnt work now?????
