Hello guys,

I've just put an extra HDD in my computer, I want to use it as extra storage not as a boot disk.

It detects fine in the BIOS, and even in system->device manager
however it doesn't show up in my computer, so I have not way of formatting it, so I can use it.

I have set the HDD up as a primary slave according to the jumpers.

What does Cable select do? Is that the same thing.

Thanks alot!

You need to format it (from Administrative Tools - Computer Management) before it will show in My Computer.

Im probably wrong, do you have the other hard drive set as slave? Even if you want to use te new one as the storage, it needs to be on slave i think or at least differnt to the main one

I had this problem when my system was first built. The main HDD was fine but the second one was seen in BIOS but not accessable from my computer.

Sadly I can't remember exactly what I did, useless I know but, try this.

Go to control panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management > (in left panel) Storage > Disk management.

This will hopefully list your drive, it did when I had the problem. IIRC it was cross hatched, but it is possible to format the drive by right clicking and choosing 'format'

This is in Win XP by the way, hope thats what you're using or this could be completely useless :)
