Hello all, i was transferring files from my CD-ROM to my HDD but when i did this my HDD made really weird not normal scratchy sounds, at 1st i cancelled the transfer but then i thought ah its nothing and started it again. All the files were moved and it was kool, thought id restart for sum reason (i restart after changing nething on my HDD). when it came to booting up windows it just made the same scratchy sound for about 2 or 3 minutes and then asked me to type in the address of the command.com thingy, i thought this aint good, but typed it in neway. didnt do nething but ask the question agn (this is DOS doing htis). I figured the hdd was half wiped. I thoguht krap. The HDD was an IBM 45GB 7400 RPM bought in december 2000, should be under warranty, but i bought it in hong kong and it will be ages before i can get it back. I really need the HDD now, im more htan willing to format it, i tried doing that through a startup disk but it wont work. Sometimes the HDD just isnt detected, plz help. im pretty sure the HDD has failed, pissed off, DogDough, cheers

Agreed. If your hard drives grinding it normally means the heads are colliding with the platter. Terminal, I'm afraid.

Nope. Nothing you can do. The trick is to say you bought it from a UK retailer that has gone bankrupt/into liquidation. IBM will replace it for you directly *

* So i've been told...err..apparantly...aledgedly??!?

Tip for looking after HDDs:

Do NOT let Wij near them, he splooged on my last one and whilst it made a tasty snack, it no longer works as a HDD. :(
