Anyone know of an app that can display HD reads and writes as they are happening? Not like Norton, where it actually tests the drive speed, I'm just interested to see what's going on and how fast.

Yush! If you're using NT, 2000 or XP then you already have one.
Find Performance Monitor in your Administrative Tools folder or type PERFMON at a Run prompt.
You'll be able to add counters to measure Physical Disk activity.(On NT you need to enable this using a switch at a command prompt, but you're not.)
I dare say there are third-party utilities which do this is a friendier, prettier way but I've never had cause to use them.
