If you are going the cheapo HD TV route then get a Evesham one, they come with 3 years swap out warrenty as standard. 42" Evesham HD lcd is £999.

£399 is far too cheap, pay for what you get and all that :p
If you were to compare the 2 models side by side or simply look at the spec sheet of each.

I would imagine your £399 doesnt do 1080i?

Do some research.

That 32" Technosonic for £399 is a rebadged Thomson TV. It has HDCP over HDMI, 1080i and 720p. DVI, VGA, 2 RGB scart, component, composite and s-video inputs. It is the only sub £500 LCD I have seen advertised that actually has a full feature set. The ones that most e-tailers are doing miss one connection or another out, or only offer HDCP over DVI, or are only HD compatible (over VGA or component), and most of these also have extra VAT and delivery charges on top of their basic cost.

The £399 from woolies is very nice, and has a good picture as well. Would actually be perfect for 360 usage Tris, but that is if you can get one. We sold out after 4 days, we have 25000 odd orders to fufill on them by the middle of November, so do not expect to get one before xmas.

And Kevin the reason the Evesham is £999 is because it is 42" not 32", and because it comes with a 3 year swap out warrenty. Other than that the specs are similar. Although the Evesham also has higher contrast and brightness.

Well what screen did you get for £700, let's compare it and see if more cash really does get you a better deal.

I'm pretty sure you know full well that it isn't all about the connections and panel, Chetan.

Yes I know, but the price difference does not always justify the better picture quality through some new fangled post processing or whatever.

samsung LE32R74BD

Hello guys
I know it is bit old topic. I was searching for samsung LE32R74BD. The contrast ratio of 5000:1 is dynamic contrast ratio. Does anybody know what is true contrast ratio of this model. Thank you.

Guys be very careful buying these cheap screens, if they don't quote a decent response time then stay well clear as alot of the screens I am seeing on offer at the moment are actually 25ms screens but they manufacturers are only publishing the grey-to-grey response which is misleadingly low.

For grey-to-grey you must not accept anything above 12ms as that translates to roughly 20ms TrTf (time rising, time falling) response which is the figure that really matters in relation to gaming. Ideally you want a figure of 16ms TrTf or less, 8ms grey-to-grey although 12ms is managable if the TV is very well priced.

If you are buying an LCD please read this...

...as it should give you a clearer idea as what to look for.

Dynamic contrast is just another misleading industry blurb to try outdo the competition, I don't think I have ever seen a true 5000:1 panel yet and I have seen alot. Typically with these misleading figures if you halve the number you are alot closer to the true performance, just like when you have to double the grey-grey response time to get close to the actual TrTf. I can't give you an exact figure though because you really need a AV expert with the right equipment before you can start to measure anything like contast ratios, that is why the manufacturers can quote such misleading figures and get away with it.

1920x1200 but yes its capable of displaying 1080p images but the dell 2407 is better priced at the moment. and if you are jsut buying for console gaming then you are better off with a lcd tv as in that price range you can get a decent one

The BenQ does not have component, so it is not ideal for 360 unless you get the VGA adaptor.

Yes, actually find the 360 version better now. Gameplay feels nicer. And only £20 in the sales.

Well I just got a 37" cheapo HD for my parents to use in the living room. Had to plug the 360 into it and was very impressed. No more ghosting than I notice on my 2405, and the immense size was great :)

Am debating with my parents on wether we should spend more and get one with an integrated digital reciever and better contrast and brightness, but this was only £450, and the ones we were looking at were £800 minimum.

only thing with cheapo brands is if and when there is prob with them you may not get a fix for it. i remember a couple years ago when sammy got their LCD tvs out ( one ms used for x360 demos) and it had a major fault with the European models. they didnt display ntsc signals properly over component. sammy sent out free firmware upgrade kits to fix the problem.

maybe the top brand/badges wont always repond like that but i doubt the lower/cheapo brands will

Yep, just isn't suitable for the living room though where most people want to play thier new consoles and high definition movies. Nothing wrong with the spec on the Benq though thats for sure.
