right.
<-long winded>
i recently decided to sod ms in everything but os, so i installed mozilla thunderbird and firebird. now i set these as default in the expectancy that my dads settings wold be unaltered. being as he is, in his "microsoft spend millions on their software so must be better" and that he is quite old and never seems to realise about default programs, i got quite a bollocking (so to speak, i was playing the guitar at the time) when he found that opening his emails (through ie, clicking on mail as he allways does) promted him with a new user wizzard, so i set the outlook as default, but now mine is outlook!!
</longwinded>
so in short, how do i set it up so that i can have thunderbird as default mail program, and he has ie?

thanks

Oh no, you've become one of them.

Right: Which Windows OS are you running? If it's XP, you should be able to set internet/email defaults for each user through the Start Menu properties.

I think you need to download a patch from *cough* www.windowsupdate.com *cough*. Adds a shortcut to "Set Program Access and Defaults" to the start menu and the add/remove software bit of the control panel.

This control panel is added to the "Add/Remove programs" diagram as part of Service Pack 1.

There is an additonal update from Windows Update that adds a shortcut to the Start Menu.
