Yep, for a quick boost in performance go for new graphics. However a monitor would be VERY beneficial!!! 15" is a little bit small now!!! get a 17" at least and save your eyes from burning man!!! :)

The Live! should be good!!! what the problem???
Whack it back in m8 with new drivers and enjoy the sweet effects that is EAX!

I run an SB live, with fpss speaker system, sounds good to me, eax really helps in CS too, I know where the enemy is by sound.
I'd try reinstalling and updating drivers.

The Live! was nothing but problems - It caused CS to crash alot.

I have vowed never to have another Creative Labs piece of hardware in my system again.

I also have a DXR3 DVD decoder card which is currently in the same aint-static bag as the Live! in my cupboard.

I was thinking that a iiamya 452 pro would be nice but at £360 a little out of my price range

I've never had any problems with ANY CL products. Well, apart from my CL TNT2U. But thats cos the Detonators refused to work well on my system at all.

I now have less money.

I had to go out and buy a printer.

HP Deskjet 940c cost me £100 + a USB cable

Perhaps I'm a little jaded to CL's stuff but the 2 CDroms I've had have been nothing but trouble - skipping tracks etc , noisey as hell.
As for sound cards, while the hardware itself is good, the software they supply is a bit over the top and has caused no end of glitches with whatever OS at the time.

However I have found a nice workaround for the soundcards, when asked to build a system or insert one of these 5.1 live things into a system, getting the "OEM" (not CL's "oem" version one) version direct from the PCB maker ECS you have the same hardware but without the bloatware drivers/software at a decent price.

Yea the software is Crap, I tend not to bother installing it, apart from the free games, and other free software NOT MADE BY CREATIVE.

Ignore all of these people. I'm right, and here's why...

Get yerself a nice new 19" monitor for only £180. Taxan (scroll down) are still selling their ex-review Ergovision 975 TCO 95 19 inch multi-scan colour monitors. Myself, WPKenny and a couple of others on the forum have bought these and they've been great (though Kenny had some probs so Taxan replaced his)

I swear that it will make the most difference to your gaming and general PC experience. Far more than a new graphics card.

I can vouch for summo on this one. I've had an Ergovision 975 for 3 years now, and it's been a joy to use all the way through (except when I have to carry it somewhere, fuck me its a heavy fucker.

Tell me about it. My mate and I were sat on the same table at I9 with a 19" and a 21"

The table met its match - and cracked right in the middle

My table at home is taking the strain as well -
