Premier in the US over and done with and UK premier 30th May 2004 with the release 31st May.

I know although you try to hide it but I know there are some ardent Potter fans amonst you....

From what I have seen in the trailers Cuaron seems to have managed the change from "light fluffy childrens story" to the more sinister plot which really develops from here on in.

Concerns: The book was a long one - granted not as long as "The Goblet of Fire" or "The Order of the Phoenix" and I am concerned at what will be excluded. For example in "Chamber of Secrets" the "Happy death day" chapter was excluded, and whilst this did not add much to the plot, it was one of the funniest chapters in the book.

Anyone as excited about this film as I am...... <awaits the anti Potter brigade>

I'm looking forward to seeing it, having enjoyed the books as relaxed reading, and I know the kids are excited about it too... that said I am a bit concerned that the next film might be a little too dark for my youngest at 6... may well be a case of checking it out first to find out what it's like rather than risk more sleepless nights due to nightmares :eek7:

Will be taking the kids to see it, mostly because I like it :) Kids do come in handy once in a while :p Jupitus, I had similair misgivings about taking my 5 year old daughter to see the Return of the King, but she survived ok, better than my 10 year old son actually. I think kids are far more resilient than we sometimes care to recognise, at least until they get a little bit older and have learned what they should be afraid of because we as a society drum it into them. Er please excuse the mild rant at the end.

Harry Potter rocks. The books are amazing, and the films are quite good too. I'm mostly looking forward to the 4th and 5th films though.

I dont think I've seen the second potter film yet? The last harry potter book was so good, I have the whole penultimate fight scene in my head like a movie.

Looks interesting but I don't think I could go to the cinema to see it :(

I'll have to wait for the DVD. One preview I read said that the director had taken most of the non-plot stuff out, but to be honest I don't like that :/

The only review I have read suggests its better than the previous two...

I'll be watching it and wont need to drag any kids with me :), after 4 years I am going back to my old Projectionist Job.

While not very exciting I will get to see most films before they are released and looking on the bright side, I wont have to pay for the cinema anymore, yay me.

Back to potter, the last 2 were better than I thought they would be, although it hasnt inspired me to read the books I can say I enjoyed the films and so will probally enjoy the 3rd.

Think I'll give it a miss. Read the first book it was reasonable, though not as outstanding as everyone makes out - I could put it down. ;)
Films from books are largely poor, especially given the subject material in this instance.

Shameless bump.

Sorry but I am totally excited by this film, I havn't read a bad review yet and its about 30 mins till I leave to watch it. Reviews are welcome but for those who watch the films and do not read the books remember your spoiler tags.

*feels like a child*

ok and what can I say.....Cuaron turned this story into something visually stunning. Apart from that I'm not going to give anything away. All I would say for all those who believe Harry Potter is for children, endure the first two films (you will be lost in the third without them) and see the third.

To those who have read the books I found a few noticable changes but nothing that really detracted from the plot. What did you all think?

*****SPOILER WARNING*****

Good film BUT the scene where Harry and co find out the truth about Sirus, Remus and Pettigrew needed another 5-10 mins. Theres a lot more background in the book and I think that at least some of it is necessary in the film to adequately explain why each of them believes him and allows him to tell the story (eg why they stun Snape rather then let him take Sirius). Its way too rushed in the film.

Other than that tho it was very good. As always there are large amounts of the book missed out, altered or condensed but a film can naver be as good as the book.

The twins still cant act but they are only a small part :)

Use spoiler tags for spoilering, the huge warning isn't necessary ;)

Heh fair enough -- just that I have a friend who claims that telling him a film has a twist (ie not what the twist is, just that there IS one) is a spoiler so I decided better safe than sorry ;)

I agree re the scene in the shrieking shack, for one thing what a fantastic set of actors to have all in the same place Thewlis / Oldman / Rickman and Spall. I also think that some explanation as to what gave Black the incentive to escape Azkaban was necessary along with the scene where Black attacks scabbers in the boy's dorm.

As well as the four mentioned above, Dawn French / Emma Thompson / Lenny Henry (even though the shrunken head is an addition made by Cuaron) Michael Gambon and Pam Ferris really came into their own.

I do not pretend to be a film buff however I thought some of the cinematography was astounding. The scene where Aunt Marge is floating away with Mr and Mrs Dursley screaming in the garden in the background whilst Dudley is scoffing his face watching tele is just one of the few that really stood out for me.

.

Yeah but that's because book 1 isn't very good. I wasn't going to bother with the rest but someone made me and from two onwards the quality shoots up. Well worth it.
