hmm, think I spoke too soon :(

I've got rid of the KMODE exception error, and the PC no longer blue screens :D. But any game running DirectX will bomb out to windows, at random intervals :(. GTA3 gives an unexpected exception. the rest don't give any error message, just bomb back to windows, with nothing in the application Log :(

Any ideas??

dorp down some driver versions and see where that takes you?

A few things you can try...

Firstly, in the BIOS, set 'Plug and Play OS' to Disabled.

Now, check in the BIOS whether APIC is enabled. If not, enable it, then enable ACPI.

I haven't tried this myself, but APIC is supposed to give you more IRQ's, thus supposedly reducing IRQ sharing. (You may need to reformat for APIC to take effect) :)

To everyone else: Note that you can only use APIC on Windows NT/2000/XP. Windows 95/98/ME will be unstable/unusable with APIC enabled.

ACPI, and I think ACPI is the problem, turn it off, and disable it in Win2k/XP (either by reinstalling or changing the PC type)

What are you doing, Dave..?

I wouldn't recommend disabling ACPI in XP or 2000, unless you have some particularly old hardware (ISA for example). I won't tell you why.

For those reading my last post, ACPI and APIC are different things. It's not a typo. :)

wtf is apic? and how do I turn it on??

I'm planning on putting ACPI back on, now that the IRQ's are set, with any luck, it will keep the configuration.

All I have to do now is get rid of the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Bsod, and I'm done

thanks for the help guys.

...and summo, why should you not switch off ACPI in win2k??

Used to get the 'IRQL Not less than or Equal to' error with a naff set of Beta Detonators (can't remember which versions). Try one of the WHQL Detonators (30.82 / 40.72).

Go into the BIOS, and it should be in the 'Advanced BIOS features' menu. :)

Have a look at my first post for a 'rudimentary' description of APIC. :)

My biggest mistake was buying an Audigy card. Ever noticed that creative dont really support XP?

GAve me some really big headaches. Turned out to be an IRQ conflict. I just moved the card in the end. Still its a pity none of their software works with it.
