Okay...

Thanksgiving is a feast that is based on the feast the Pilgrims (you know, those religious zelots from England that came over here for a new start) had. They had a very long and hard year and had it not been for the Indians (Native Americans for you sensitive sorts), they would not have survived. See, these people knew very little of farming, esp after coming to a new land with new food. So the Indians showed them how to farm and the wonders of corn and what animals made great coats.

They had a feast with their Indian friends and so we have one every year in November (4th Thursday) in honor of that.

And here's an interesting fact: civilizations all over have had harvest time celebrations for many years so it sorta ties in with that.

This day is a time where we eat too much, reflect on what we have been given and what we should be thankful for, and for planning our day after Thanksgiving sales shopping stops.

No seriously, its supposed to be about being thankful for all we have.

So even if you aren't American and you hate us, its still not a bad thing to reflect on what you have been given...so many people out there are not as blessed as we.

And at that first Thanksgiving your lot murdered a few Indians and cooked them up for dinner. So the traditional Thanksgiving dinner was infact an Apache! Must be terrible for americans in the U.K. trying to get a frozen Apache down at Sainsburys.

They left Plymouth (A place on the south coast of England) ...sailed to America, and being oh so intelligent and original ..they named the settlement in America Pymouth too. ;x
