whipped: Had NTL CM for 18 months before moving house, had about 2 outages of <12hrs each in that entire time, it's cheaper than ADSL, gives better gaming pings and doesn't involve BT in any way, shape or form. Cable Modems = teh win

oldlester: To be honest I don't do either a massive amount, I've just got used to a real connection - this 56k shite is doing my head in. But when I do download stuff it tends to be iso's^H^H^H^H^H er, big things. Having a 4mbit connection at work makes sub-100k/sec downloads seem painfully slow

What the fuck are you on about? How many providers have you seen offering 128k cable? Unless you're talking about ISDN of course - in which case, it costs more than broadband.

I've got a couple of friends who've got the NTL 128k cable - best thing about it is it enabled them to win the arguments with their wives about getting broadband cos it was so cheap And like oldlester said it's great for casual surfing & gaming, and not the end of the world for downloading, just have to leave the PC on longer while those h00ge MS security patches download

Bah you sound like my wife! When we lived here before she used to whinge & moan about how crap Derby was and it had crap shops and we didn't have a car so we were stuck in Derby and all the locals were inbred etc so I learned to drive, bought a car, we moved to Nottingham.

And she still wasn't happy so now she's fucked off I've moved back to Derby and it's actually not that bad OK so it's hardly the jewel of the midlands but where is eh? Iv'e got a decent job here, I've managed to buy a nice 2-bedroom house & garden for next to nothing (compared to other parts of the country where I couldn't get a cardboard box for £60k), I've got some good friends here and I'm spitting distance from the Peak District, what more could I ask for eh?
