I hear tiger-penis soup does wonders for your bedromm performance.

Why not get some IP cameras? Then you can transmit the pictures directly back to a pc running motion-sensing capture software. You could even record footage then. Don't know of any IP cameras that will work with infra red though. There must be some.

Can't you use one of those new-fangled camera phone jobbies?

WPKenny,:

I got a per unit budget, the antenna's and boosters etc i would need to reach my 2 mile goal will overshoot that...

But here's another idea i recently had: is there any "motion detection" software for PDA's - particularly the Sony Cleioeeoe (wtf you spell it) - the main goal is *proof* that rare species exist here, and not *quality* at this time.

This one looks funky and they'll even flog you the network equipment too. Dunno prices though. :/

Need some more info.... budget etc.

Speaking to a colleague he can provide you with a wi-lan solution if you went with IP cameras or whatever but but you're looking at about 1,600 just for the stations alone per camera point plus the stations need to be in line of site.

How will you be powering these things? Like how long are the cameras to be left out there?

You could have some sort of solar panel charging cells all day. Then you could plug an IP camera into a dirt cheap laptop and a mobile phone and dial into each camera remotely to pick up the pictures.

It's the range that's the problem. You could use some normal wireless netowkring stuff which has a range of about 100m and you could just move close enough to pick up pictures but hopefully not close enough to disturb the wildlife.

You can get wireless that will transmit further in a narrow beam (like about a mile? depending on conditions)
