Since people are just qqing about it in my thread just use this. personally id rather be hacked than robbed irl my opinion so just use this thread instead of robbing the other one

Would much rather have my daoc acc hackt then haveing someone break into my home (havent tryet it so its just a guess)
Daoc is just a bloody game ofc its sad to lose something you spent so many hours on but its still just a game, you can just reroll to a new char an start again not like you will lose all your ingame friends, an nothing in daoc now days is that hard to get its just a matter of takeing the time to do it..

If hacked I was under the impression your chars are restored with realm points etc, just without weapons, money etc. On this basis, I just cannot see how anyone would rather be burgled, and risk getting beat up or even murdered than getting their account hacked, a game account that in a few years will be totally forgotten about anyway.

The thing is if you were truly hacked you could get your items back no question. Unfortunatly it does not always work like that irl.

Risking being killed is not the same as being burgled. Assumed by topic that burgled meant having items stolen, with no personal harm to yourself. Nobody would choose daoc over risking death...I hope.

But thats part and parcel of being burgled. Burgling doesnt entail someone knocking at your door and saying "ello guv, any chance I could just take your most treasured items"? How many stories do you hear of people disturbing burglers and ending up in hospital?

Even if there was zero risk of you getting hurt, say, it happened whilst you were out, I still cannot for the life of me, see how any rational thinking person would prefer the stress of comming home, seeing your house that you had worked so hard for, being ransacked and some of your most prized possessions being stolen, to having a daoc account hacked. How can you compare a family heirloom being stolen, to a couple of plats and items that you can re farm (if GOA dont restore them) in a few days.

lies! in society today cause its all so bollocksed up it would be the burglar whose life would be at risk and anything that happened to them while robbing you would no doubt end up with you going to jail regardless of the situation

You blow the whoel thing out of proportion. Few burglars would break into a house where people currently live. Atleast thats true in Sweden...

I'll stick to this situation. In the other situation I would rather have my DAoC account hacked as well .

Why should someone care more for a family heirloom than for a DAoC account? I especially don't see what being a rational thinking person has got to do with it.

The family heriloom has a symbolic value. I'm not saying you shouldn't attach value to symbols, but I don't see anything wrong with not doing it.

The DAoC account has a value which is based upon the time and effort you've invested in it. I think you can compare it to this: if you make a beautoful painting and someone comes along and tears the canvas apart you won't be mad because of the value of the painting itself, but because you spent so much time and effort on that painting. Once again: I'm not saying you should attach value to time and effort, but I don't see anything wrong with doing so.

As far as I'm concerned you can't compare the two as they're based upon different ways of attaching value to something. Saying one is worse than the other seems silly to me, it depends on the situation and the person.

Note:
1. If everything gets stolen from your home, you of course also will lose a lot of time and effort. However, if it's just a few things which you can replace without too much of a hassle this aspect isn't as important. It's why I said it why I said it's also dependant on the situation .

2. The value which we attach to time and effort is probably (only) symbolic as well. In the example of the painting, the activity of painting was enjoyable in itself, not because of the result. Strangely enough it appears to be wasted time without a result though.
Edit: this still doesn't mean you can compare the two though, as the symbolic value is based upon different principles.

There is a huge difference between the reasonable socially secure sweden and the more insecure brittain.

Denmark is much like Sweden. And here mostly burglars are either drug addicts trying to get funds for their last fix (yes, last...). Or, it's organized gangs sweeping houses where noone is home.

hmm to have my account hacked would be pretty sucky to say the least, as for having the house burgled.

Well good luck to the burgler breaking into our house if he can survive getting over the crap in the hall/conservatory without breaking his neck and then manage to find somthing to steal would be thumbs up to him.

As for account hackage tbh would it bother me. Probbly not yes my characters are precious to me and i would hate for someone to take the name ive cultured for myself over the past few years. However my account is virtual its somthing i can accept loosing.

But then ive deleted ml10 fully templated rr5 chars ive tried all three realms out. If i was to be hacked tommorow and my characters deleted yes i would be fuming but it would be probbly a week or so before im back up and roaming again.

Life is one of those things and you have to decide what is more important

1. the account you have put a lot of work into but in the end will eventually disapear into the internet graveyard.

2. the house you live in which when your burgled your insurance premiums go up, your family being in danger of repeat burglarys. And the constant fear that your going to be burgled again.

I always say be prepared for the worse it may never happen but when it does at least you can say "well ive prepared for it and i can deal with it".

For instance if i woke up tommorow and my friends said "warky your character have all been deleted and your passwords changed."

I would without doubt prefer any of my game accounts to be hacked rather than be robbed in real life. If i was robbed in real life the feeling that there is someone out there that has entered my home and gone through my items without permission would be devastating. If my account was stolen on-line i would just open another account and play the game again (if i wished to continue playing) without much bother. Just the feeling that someone had invaded my home in real-life, and could do it again would be far worse in my opinion.

LOL I coul'tn care freaking less about my daoc account getting hacked ROFL. How can people care so much about that? Even with all the hours spend, will have an impact on ur life so much? If yes, then ur a tad pathetic imo.

Hacked as in getting my bankdetals or other comprising stuff which is used in every day life is the same getting burgled.

Hacked as in: oh noes someone haxored my daoc account = no care.

I've been burgled numberous of time: 2 times they break & entered while I was sleeping. 1 time I left the house for 1 hour and they stole most the stuff they could grab allong (dvd collection, jewelery etc) other time I saw 2 guys bending(!) the door of my car so much so they could open the lock.

Having my daoc acount is the least of my problems
