guys,

looking for a piece of software that would allow someone to :

1. Play a backing track
2. plug in a electric guitar to the PC
3. Play guitar along to the track, recording the full song.

Is this possible? I remember I saw a thread which seemed to be along the same lines, but im buggered if I can find it*

*if you find it you can bugger me if you want :touch:

Youw ant something that does multi-track recording like audition, but its not free. with that you'd record yer geetar from line in apply whatever monkey magic you want to it, then just hit record and play along and it will create a new, seperate track with the lead.

Audacity would probably do this tbh.

It will indeed. It's clunky but functional. Apparently it will support Cubase VST plugins too, but it crashed on the one occasion I tried to do that.

It's been ages since I recorded on the PC, but when I did I just nabbed the right sized cable adapter from Maplin and shoved it in the line-in. You can probably do better by running through a decent amp first - the Line6 kit is well regarded - but if you're just experimenting the low-tech is perfectly acceptable.

I use Cubase SX for multitrack recording including bass parts, rhythm and lead guitar.

Can also knock together a basic drum track using midi drums.
