When SI came, we started a new guild for Bonedancers only, to make zergs of BD's (imagine 20 BD's with each 4 pets )

We looked for a "cool" name and came up with "Boners Inc".

Few days ago Kemor contacted our GM to ask to change the name cuz someone thinks it is offensive...

So yesterday we came up with "Dirty Dancers" ("damned, ganked by a dirty BD!")...

Strangely enough this was also considered offensive...



I would understand if it was due to a refference to a movie... and then again, "Riders of Rohan" "Public Enemies" "Jaffa Masters" etc are also prohibited (I don't care about the names, just making a point)

I got a pretty... well it may be a stupid idea... How about.. choose a name that isn't stolen from a copyrighted product, or sexually/racially offensive? Along the lines with the EULA you agree to every time you log in.

Just because a film is named something does not mean it's copyrighted for just about anything, most likely as a MOVIE NAME, not as for instance a videogame. Don't see anything wrong with it at all.

I've seen Boners Inc when playing my savage...thought it was class. Pity you got your name changed. Perhaps have it as:

<Give the Dog a Boner> or

<Ride me like a Bony>

or go with the boners thing and call it

Zzzz @ Goa , Boners Inc was no more offensive given the innuendo than Bonedancer is. I wish Goa would spend less time fussing with petty matters and fix bugs such as no epic armour for BD'ers. Been 5 days now with no solution from rightnow for me, and theyve already fixed the problem once for Mill.

Bonedancer is a class, Boner is an erection... quite easy to spot the different there...

I'd expect the same to happen to any guild going by the name "cocks inc," "boobs inc," or some similar name... Sorry, but you must have known this would happen when you created this name...

Boner is slang for erection, but also has a real meaning which isn't really that offensive.

Meanings are derived from the context of there use. I wont bother giving the hundreds of examples of potenitally rude words and their perfectly acceptable use. When words are implied to be rude out of context this is innuendo. Here ends the english class.

BD GM who talked to kemor here, first of all WHOA so many replies over a small guild ^_^
To explain the reason why we actually chose Boners Inc, it derived from the movie Monsters Inc...well not say that the Boner part innit was chosen by accident...but hey...
And okay....i accept if they find Boner an offensive word....i'm a reasonable person...but Dirty Dancers
now whats offensive about that?
Well anyways we are now named Unleashed Army, not a bad name either, thx 2 Bashir/Ugleh for choosing it (whoohoo u found a name that is actually NOT offensive *cheer*)

Actually if you think about it a Bone Dancer could have some quite rude innuendo's too, which is what he was talking about..

Someone once told me that they were in contact with Kemor or that other punjabi terrorist bloke (Zargar) and that they were actively on the lookout for offensive names. Seems to me that it may not be complaints about guildnames from individuals but instead you may have found yourself on the wrong end of a witch hunt. Ive reported someone myself ages ago (the cheeky bastard tried to tell me that Rapist meant brave warrior in Danish ffs) but its now getting stupid...really..it is.

Anyway - feel free to report LoveMonkey (if you are reading this drivel) - im sure there must be an innuendo there if you look hard (oo err - theres another) enough.

Oh er

I er, might have given one of my characters an, er rude name....
I did want the name Reknaw.....Cos it sounds cool, (and spelt backwards it's a tad rude....hey I'm just a big rebel at heart).
But, alas, someone already had it, so......I went for ...Rekcuf instead....
Now I know what it says backwards (total accident!...not), but not one person has ever told me it was rude, I guess unless I point out to them what it says backwards it'll be fine.
However, will some-one get on their high horse and proclaim it offensive if they read it backwards???
Then where will we be?
Soon it'll be illegal to have a name with letters which can be rearranged into something vaguely suggestive or offensive?
Maybe we'll all end up with names like a hotmail address....Timmy123_1974 or somesuch to appease the Mary Whitehouses out there.
Hmm, think I'll push this a bit more in game, see if I can stir it up some....Look out for someone with an innocent rude name.
