Ok, so it's coming soon. Now I actually drive, driving games hold far more appeal for me. I'm thinking of getting a wheel and pedals set for this, but have no idea what is good and what is not, nor how much it's going to cost me.

HELP!

Easy, hook up the PS3 in the Fiesta, get on screen display, and away you go

you need a table or something to hook the wheel onto or are they ok on your lap these days

I also drive, and as a result cannot use steering wheels and pedals, the feedback is never anywhere close to right and just screws you over. Weird glidey plastic does not accurately represent travelling over tramac, no matter how much they gloss them up.

Better than using a pad though.

I personally disagree, at least with a pad you're not being given false information.

I'm inclined to agree with Wazz (*shudder*) but it entirely depends on the game. Arcadey titles like gran turismo are much better on a pad given how the game plays. Use a pad on something like GTR, however, and you'll be off the track at every turn. You *need* the extra sensitivity to manage the car.

Yeah, 14 years driving, never have been able to use a wheel and pedals. GT may be great looking and have a damn fine physics engine, but it is still miles away from the real thing.

You should find a way to try GTR or GTR 2 with a decent wheel. It's absolutely astonishing, plus it'll make you retract that "damn fine physics engine" comment :D.

If you didn't try the GT5 Time Trial, then you probably would think GTR2 is miles ahead. GT5 actually will have a good and difficult physics engine.

Anyway, wheel is far better than a pad no matter what way you spin it. More control on a wheel than a stick. More control with a pedal than a button.

Well I'll be interested to see how that works out. I mean they need to make the game playable with a pad and I can't see how that makes it anywhere near a simulation. Still, I'll wait till I play it to see how good it is.

Strange this - was thinking along the same lines as nath and the others have said today but not with a car driving game.

Recently got SBK09 (superbikes) as everyones saying its "like the real thing", as a biker of four and a bit years I was interested to see.

Its good fun, but its not, and with the current level of technology will never be anything like the real thing. I'd prefer to have a pad or keyboard or whatever than a fake-steering wheel or whatever because as the others have said, by trying too hard to be as real as possible it just fails all the more. With a keypad its not so much about the input as it is about the fun of the gameplay and you can kinda get into it a little more.

If you want realism get in your motor and get on the track, all of these OTT 'force feedback' things are just toys tbh
