Now you too can play grids online with this handy guide.

It's pretty bloody clever tbh.

The "drop a can, extend your grid" trick is rather old, known by most veteran scouts/cloakers/ dog fighters, me included.

However, I did not realise the system was as flexible as specified there, allowing you to shrink other grids and so on.

Quite interesting, I'd say.

Although applicable in alot of areas, surely it's not worth the bother unless there's fleet stuff going on.

no its not. and i'd say its not even viable unless were talking BoB vs Goons sized fleets here.

Probably very useful if you've got a PoS regardless of fleet sizes. Shrinking the grid your PoS is on would enable you to play merry hell with any sniper fleet.

Keeping the grid shrunk might be a PITA mind.

Sad man that I am I actually found it useful from a theoretical PoV with regards to 'zone' loading in a game.

i very much doubt the grids are THAT exploitable that it can be used to save a otherwise doomed POS.

sure it might make it slightly more dificult for the attackers but if they are many enough that pos will blow up. and if theres equal numbers of defenders then its still mostly down to who's got the best tactic.

besides, u cant shrink a grid around a pos as it have to be anchored near a moon, and that moon will already have a grid so the pos will be inside that one.

The whole point of the article is that you can do this.

There's more than 1 grid covering a planet/moon's gfx radius. I know, because I've made bookmarks "inside" planets, either at the center, or randomly somewhere "inside" it.

I presume the grid for a planet/moon is as large as a standard grid... it's just that the visuals (texture) extend over many grids, that's all.

well either way, a doomed pos is a doomed pos, abused grid or not.

and i wouldn't actually try to do any of whats written in that guide as i'm fairly certain CCP isnt all that amused by it.

There's nothing in that guide that would entitle CCP to take any sort of action against a player.

Option 1 would be to pre shrink the PoS grid & hold it shrunk for as long as possible thereby making attack difficult in the first place as people #could#. Option 2 is to know when your attackers are coming get in position & then the corp pre shrinks the grid meaning you're all setup & the enemy is either in the wrong grid (depending on warp in point) or so close to you that they're much riper for the picking than they thought they'd be.

I shouldn't think CCP gives a monkeys as they tend to be impressed (or at least used to be) when their players work out game mechanics.
