Green vs. The Rest of the World

Clan Green have kindly put themselves up for a bit of an organised session next Monday (4th Nov) at 8pm for an event entitled "Green vs. The Rest of the World".

I'm sure well have to do a bit of team juggling to even up sides, but I hope we can at least fill one server to capacity for a good session.

So if you want to slaughter Scoobs and Summo, eliminate Elhana or gouge at Gersen, head to 213.221.174.39:14569 (Conquest 1) after 8 - or gather in #bwbf1942 before hand to plan some tactics.

The more the merrier!

I like the title by the way. Very epic and heroic sounding. I'll take on the rest of the world myself.;)

At the rate it's going now... looks like I'll still be downloading 24.
Only about 300MB to go ! I need broadband SO very much !

Curse my impatience and inability to wait until it starts in March ! :)

...although if it's done by then I'll investigate turning up.

Moved to Conquest 1 for numerous reasons - hopefully see you all there:

What are the numerous reasons? Right now Green is outnumbered by 4 or so, with the server being full, and with us having like 7 people spare. It seems a bit crap.

Reasons were we didn't expect enough numbers and also Conquest 2 is set to auto-team balance which would have made a nightmare of getting on right sides

Post match roundup!

I'd like to thank everyone who turned up from the public and actually made this an event instead of [G] on a server on their own. Yes it was slightly chaotic, yes, it was confusing, yes it was laggy, but it was lot of fun, and certainly the biggest game I've had on the servers since the demo was released.

An extra big thanks goes out to Davross for setting up the server side of this, considering it's BW's first attempt at an organised bf1942 game, it went a lot better than it could have done.

So, I hope everyone had fun, and we can do it again very soon.

OK - not 100% successful, partly down to my incompetance with rcon and partly cos a couple of people just couldnt work out what non-G to the other side meant - but hey its a pubbie so what you expect :)

I'd like to say a big thank you to all who played, especially to G. No one lost their patience with my rcon incompetance and for that I am appreciative.

We did manage to get one good game of Kharkov in which I thoroughly enjoyed - Im not sure about others. I hope people would like to do the whole thing again - if nothing else it got a server loaded up with people for a change whcih was great to see.

Once again, thanks all for showing - see y'all soon!

Cheers Dav, Good Games all!!

The slightly chaotic nature of the game can be blamed on EA, we did our best under trying circumstances, look forward to next time

I would like to add my name to those calling for another session, enjoyed throughly.

Couple of points/questions

It was mentioned that [G] was split over both sides as the ROW side was all over the place, could we nominate Axis/Allies to [G] before the game?

I am quite new to this, my machine slows up with a lot of action on screen, is this my machine or the server and what can I do to speed it up.

We did try to sort this out, however, with the various problems we encountered it was hard to ensure everyone was on the same side, especially when people refused to swap from the [G] side.

Hopefully next time we can organise more in advance, and change the round intro time allowing the teams to get onto the right sides before the map actually starts.

Edit;

That's the one

As everyone else has said it was a somewhat chaotic, but overall, a good game. A little more organisation and the fixes in the next patch and it should be great.

Would be nice to get this sort of event to be a regular BW thing. This sort of regular event, possibly including a community website with event info, scores, who's played and so on, would really boost BW's image and all the more reason for people to subscribe.

Maybe something like this every week or two? Could stick with [G] vs ROW but I'm sure there's other clans that could also use the practice and want to show us how well they can line up for multi machinegun kills. ;)

Warning !
Stupid, impulsive idea alert !

How about lopping together a "Best of Barrysworld" clan, and trying to encourage some of the other GSPs to do the same ?
Then totally trash everyone else and giving Barrysworld the reputation of being "where the big kids play" :)

I thought it was a great idea as something needs to be done to liven the BF servers up.

Although I reckon that could be a lot of fun, I think you would all soon get tired of 12 people V's just me and Dav :)

I was thinking along the lines of a weekly "guest clan vs RoW" thing to try and up numbers. If DP can scrape together a full squad - or borrow a few people in the name of numbers, maybe well do it next. Other clans volunteering either partial or full-squads gratefully received.

On the lines of a webpage update, we have the 1942 community column available for such things - I'd do one myself but Im currently working on 3 simultaneous contracts and a little over-worked.

If someone wants to volunteer for a bit of community journalism, feel free to mail me (kev@davross.org) and I'll happily post it with full credits on the community site.

People who are interested in writing more regularly for that column could also be given access rights if they demonstrate themselves suitable (its my neck on the block if I give people access and they abuse it you understand).

Once we have the organisation a bit better sorted, I'll also post it to BW News warning of the forthcoming game, and maybe even cross-post to some of the general 1942 sites for a bit of community expansion.

Next time will be more organised - I promise. It was my first time and it was hectic - and the pressure of rcon mis-behaving did not help my organisational skills :)

Dav

PS: Scoobs - thanks for that command - I was aware of it, but since I couldn't even get rcon to swap to Iwo Jima, I think it was just too ambitious to even try!! :)

You couldn't find 5 mins to prod the people at BW to update:

http://www.barrysworld.com/games/battlefield1942/

sometime, could you? It may not be 100% official yet (I don't think there's anywhere within the BW site that links to that page, the games list only has a 'launch' icon not an 'info' one), but it'd be nice to have somewhere to point people to for links on what the BW servers are, patches, and mods when they come out.

Are BW really that strapped for personnel that they can't finish setting up this page?

-Ath

P.S. For those who can't spot the obvious, that page is smattered with Unreal Tournament logos and the sidebar links are to UT stuff

It takes them about 14 weeks to answer a fucking query in the support forum, updating webpages is very obviously even lower than supporting paying customers.

To be honest the way BW respond to customers seriously makes me wonder if it's even worth the effort of arranging events that indirectly help them.
