To quote TUG "Yeah, DDR GF1's can be had for about 115 quid nowadays if you don't mind it being OEM" i was just wondering where cos i wanna buy a geoforce 1 ddr but these are the cheapest prices i found (is £115 inc VAT cos the following are):

DABS

Creative
GE Force Annihilator Pro AGP £186.83
GeForce2 MX 32MB DDR AGP £98.70

Erazor
GeForce GTX 2mx 32Mb AGP £113.98 (don't think is DDR)
Erazor X 32Mb Ge-Force AGP £152.75
ErazorX2 32Mb Ge-Force DDR AGP £205.63

Hercules
3D Prophet 32Mb DDR RP £193.88
3D Prophet 32Mb DDR OEM £202.10

ARIA

GUILL / 3D POWER GE-FORCE 256 32MB £102.23 (don't think is DDR)

So looking at it the G2 MX is almost £100 cheaper - with not a great deal less in performance? (i play in 680 x 480 cos i got a crap pc)

Is the performance thing true or is Toms Hardware talking shit?

Would the Herc sdr card be better than a Geoforce2MX and what is the performance dif between a SDR and DDR Geoforce1?

Bear in mind i am skint atm (graduate :()but need to change me TNT1 so i can use it for a doorstop :) plus i don't wanna spend much over £100 on a card so i have more money for beer and hookers ;)

regards and thanks

Merc

Ps would there be any conflict between either of the cards and a GAA5A [ i think  ]Gigabyte mobo?

hmm, i guess they havent updated there prices because ive seen them goinging for ~£115 in the manchester area at a few places.

also, as far as i no, the one at Aria IS a ddr.

tbh, the DDR is overal a faster card, but niv arnt making it anymore so if you are having probs getting one just get an MX, i think if were all honest it will probably be ok and youl still see a nice speed increase.

just dont expect it to be screaming fast at 1024x in 32 bit colour, but personally i dont think my geforce 2 is that quick in 32-bit mode (i dont use it much anymore tbh) so i wouldent bother, ust stick to 16 and ull be v happy :)

Phoned aria they said it was the SDR model - so atm the GeForce2 MX 32MB DDR AGP @ £98.70 is the front runner - is the card any good?

Hows about:Creative 3D Blaster GeForce II MX 32MB DDR Retail 76.00, £89.30 inc VAT from http://www.microdirect.co.uk

The DDR GF1's are about 110 from a poota fair, Creative DDR GF1's are popular...

I wanna see how this MX DDR performs tho, sounds impressive - I mean, it must have at least DDF GF1 performance!

I wouldn't bother with a Nvidia graphics card with out the detonator driver but it still does perform as well as the VooDoo 5-5500

ddr v's sdr for mx

After reading some reviews of mx cards it has been stated that the memory can either be 128bit sdram or 64bit ddr - so i was wondering would there be much speed difference between the 2?

reason i ask is that some1 said on another forum that the sdram would be faster as it is 128 bit - but i don't know?

so was just wondering....

thx

Read a comparison between the MX SDR and MX DDR, and the SDR wins because of the increased bandwidth. Yes, I have got that the right way round. The 128bit SDR is faster than the 64bit DDR. Which leaves the Geforce 1 DDR beating both of them. I've seen the DDR for about £115, at Dabs I think, or maybe novatech.
