I've ordered one. I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives in the next few days.

It's a hand held console with a similar shape to the GBA except it has better specs...

Oooo, sounds nice. I'll stick with my Neo Geo Pocket though :)

I think you've just wasted your money.

*although in 5 year's time you'll probably get over £300 for it on eBay.;)

You're better off going for a Pocket PC PDA.

From the web sites I've seen over the past few days I think there's plenty of support. There's very encouraging things going on with this little hand held.

There's a GBA emulator under development. The screen's bigger than the GBA's even though it does suffer from the same problem with not being lit.

As opposed to a PDA, this is actually directed at gamers so perks their interest up more than a business tool.

I did think about it for a day or two before ordering one and I reckon it should be worth the money. I'm looking forward to being able to shove a few hundred spectrum/master system/NES/SNES games on there as well as a few mp3's. I've mentioned before that I commute to london for up to and beyond 5 hours a day and I reckon this could easily keep me occupied.

Even as a stand alone MP3 player it's not exactly a rip off.

Well it's arrived.

The SMC (Smart Media Card) hasn't arrived yet so I popped out and got a 8pound 16 meg one just to mess about. So far I've got Doom on it, Rick Dangerous and a PC Engine emu with about 15 games "backed up" on to it so far. Very good. :) The screen's massive.

Have to confess that's a very impressive looking handheld.

Mmmm. Well after a weekend's worth of use being restricted to a 16 meg card I have to say I'm still very impressed.

Emulators I've tried so far:

Game Gear,
Game Boy
Game Boy Colour
PC Engine
NES
SNES
Sega Master System
PC (well okay, so doom and wolfenstein ports form the PC versions)

The games are tiny and on a 16 meg card I had more than enough to keep me occupied all the way to work. And when I get to work I can gut it and put another 30 or so games on to mess about with on the way home. \o/

Two half used alkaline batteries lasted me a weekend's worth of tinkering and only this morning did I have to put in my shiny new rechargable batteries.

On my wish list are : A CPS2 emu, a GBA emu and a Megadrive emu (it's got the best version of Sonic on it.)

Dunno what's happening about the Megadrive/Genisis emu but there's a working GBA emu that's not yet publicly released and people have been discussing the CPS2 emulation saying that it's powerful enough to run the gfx side of the CPS2 emulation but doing sound on top of that might be a bit of a struggle. Which is a bit poo. Can't have everything I suppose.

I should post some screenies of it all soon when I can be arsed.

I can see myself having a good few megs free for MP3's on the train once I've filled it with my fave games and more (that's when my 128 meg card arrives).

The community seems pretty friendly. Quite relaxed actually and very international.

/me wubs his GP32

Well, no but I can play games which are more cutting edge - Zelda, Mario, Streetfighter Alpha, Golden Sun, an *improved* version of Sonic 1 & 2 along with the homebrew stuff like GBA Elite all for *cough* not much money *cough* ;)

Oh, and it has a lit screen as well. :p

Okay, you got me with the lit screen but there's a GBA emu almost done for the GP32.

Will be interesting to see how it runs GBA games. :)

Still, a Megadrive Emu on GP32 is nothing to be sniffed at. Some of my fave games of all time are on MD - Thunderforce 3, Elemental Master, Hellfire, Herzog Zwei etc etc .......

Only wish someone would release a handeld capable of running MAME - then I would come in my pants.

So does my mobile phone (sort of) :p

I can see future Pocket PC's running MAME better but alas (unless M$ release a handheld) I can't see it happening properly for a good few years.

Been messing around with it. Although the screen is pretty bright it would be nice to be able to play it anywhere/anytime so I've started up a little project... here.
