Mythic and Dark Age of Camelot have gone in-game to try to prevent further loss for players hit by the hurricane. Looking at the issue and realizing that the affected players would obviously not be logging on again for some time, Mythic came up with a unique idea:

We will be taking all servers down tomorrow, Friday, September 2 at 8:00 AM. We expect them to return by 12:00 PM EDT (probably sooner, of course). Why?
We’ve all got friends and family down south, and there’s a big player community down there as well. Like many of you, we’re struggling to find some small way that we can help besides the basic and obvious “donate to the Red Cross” stuff. We went through the game systems, looking for stuff that people could lose if they are unable to log in for awhile, and paying rent on the in-game houses is fortunately the only thing. We can’t suspend in-game house rent by billing address, so we’re just suspending house rent across the board for the whole game. We have to take the servers down to do it, though.

Right now we’re planning to reinstate in-game rent when we put up the Darkness Rising patch, currently scheduled for early October. We’ll see how things are when the time comes and let you know if that plan changes. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Nice goodwill gesture :)

Yes, very nice, and I think it shows how a company should run. They know, customers are in a trouble, and they want to make sure they will be happy when they can play the game again. If it means giving some advantage to everyone and every guild? Who cares, that isn't important :) Implementing in game help doesn't cost much, and happy customers, who feel the company cares for them stay with the game longer :)

nice idea but tbh, if you just lost everything, ncluding family members your real home and years of personal items (photes, vidios of those family members now dead", are you honestly going to care or even think about a game ?

Still nice to see a company do something though :)

it's not like it's going to change the world or anything but it's a nice gesture. Once you finally get settled back in you don't want to go online and be reminded of things by losing your virtual home as well.

A minor inconvenience on the scale of things but it's the little things that count :)

SOE suspended all subscriptions for the affected areas and halted all items that decay over time. Nice to see these games companys caring about thier customers, on a side note Blizzard have done nothing :D! (I may be wrong about that)
