The easier and more sensible way is to tell your bank it's an unauthorised credit card transaction and they'll refuse GOA payment. The police have better things to deal with than this, and banks are used to dealing with this sort of shit.

Phone your bank, tell them that they have taken money without your permission.

They will sort it.

Its so fucking easy.

Think someone tried that b4 and got the old "Read the small print, you no cancel autorenew, you get billed" kinda routine. Then something about having at least a month to cancel it....

Anyway....where theres small print ya always borked.

Ok, tnx I will try that. But isnt it strange that Goa-like company is doing things as it sees fit. I better check my previous credit card statements, i wouldnt be surprised if they have been billing twice, per one subscription. Arent there any laws about it in France.

Customer should be billed of a service when he/she actually uses it. And I sent them an e-mail to cancel the subscription before my last one ended.

Total madness

you could have turned auto renewal off ages ago, if you dont that means that you can get billed if you dont turn it off on time. Some companies (like with mobile phones) you need to say 3 months ahead that you are canceling. So it isnt that unusual that you pay for a service you arent actually using.

Off course you might have tried to turn it off 2 weeks before you got billed, but if it was less than a week you were asking for trouble tbh. Or just turn off auto renewal and resubscribe every time it runs out.

We can't close your account because you send us an email. That's why we have a secure webpage for account transactions.
At any point during your subscription period you can cancel autorenew and you will not be billed anymore. Can't really see what we could have done here to be honest and the subscription pages have not been down for about a month or so.

Sorry, that is not the truth!
I personally know 7 people on Avalon and 3 people on Excalibur who canceled auto-renew and by a mysterious error it was set to auto-renew again.
It think there even was something in the Friday news about it (last summer/autumn?), but naturally the people didn't got reimbursed.
Barryworld isn't anymore, but there were a lot of other people with the same problem...

From my experience the best way is to talk to your bank and cancel your transaction, but be prepared that you can't reopen your account with that cc anymore (or even with any other cc?)

Regards, W.

I'm not covering up for anything. The last tiem the site was down was when we took it down for maintenance on the 24th of May. They came back up on the 26th and have been up uninterrupted ever since.
It's possible that either your computer or your ISP had the maintenance page cached but that is not something we can be responsible for.

Well Requiel, regardless of that its a well known fact that people have had auto-renew mysteriously activated after months of inactivity (dont tell me you have missed all the threads about this over the last couple of years). So i would not be so quick at saying its not your fault, and that the website is working as intended. This is a serious matter and you should treat it as such.

That beeing said i dont agree with the initial posters use of language - try beeing more civil when adressing GOA, hatefull comments as the ones you used wont exactly help you. Can understand that you are angry though.

in this situtation mentioned, goa did everything right, cept having subs down 2 days. but thats nout out of the ordiary for any big company.

but there was some strange auto renew, auto renewing its self in past..

only thing i could think of that could make that happen is having to go to a backup, where auto renew was preivously on. but surely not ;p

tbh you should be greatful a goa staff member replyed here to explain things..

Bzu it must have been a problem on your side. Something to do with cached pages, proxy servers, whatever. I had a similar problem almost a year ago when sub pages were down for a veeery long time (weeks!). Then they supposedly started working but lots of people still got the message that they are down.
You can try changing your proxy server maybe, not sure if that would help though.

Auto-renew being turned on without your knowledge is a different issue to the one the original poster had and I have no idea what caused that or if it is still an issue now that the subs pages have been overhauled. If that happened, then of course I wouldn't deny that it was a problem with our system, however Bzus problem was that he had set his account to auto-renew and hadn't cancelled it at all.

lol, if they billed you only when you used DAoC, you'd be quite happy if they deleted your charachters and account details when you wern't using it to free up space?
You should give atleast a week or 2 notice if you can't get into your account and want to turn off auto renew. Giving them all of one day to sort it isn't really sensible.
How many times exactly did you try to cancel your account? Just once the day before it ran out and it was down? Planning ahead is your friend, if you think you might stop playing at the end of the month, cancel auto rewnew at the start of the month, you can play till the month is up, and renew whenever you want.

Altho language used by poster is clearly out of order, it's either true that over past 2 years many ppl pointed out same problem.
Since i'm not the kind of ppl thinking there are strange plots behind this behaviour, i can honestly think it's a software related problem lying somewhere either in the page code or in the software billing renew system.
So on general speaking i'd suggest from an ex Software Developer point of view to force Devs to give a strong and definitive check on the whole system.
Just 2 cents
