Please guys and girls, when you oragnise ML's know the difference between GMT and current UK time. Current time in the UK is GMT +1 or British Summer Time (BST).

Logged in to find out I was late for ML5 BG steps when the time I logged in was 6 pm GMT.

25 July, 2005, 17:04 GMT 18:04 UK - from BBC Web site just now.

If you mean UK time then please put UK not GMT.

GMT is british time and what you are saying is we should call it DST in winter.

no

the leaders say GMT to distinguish british time from other countries as there are ALWAYS those that need to know. they are trying to help YOU not themselves.

double click on your time at the bottom of the screen.
what does it say

GMT adjusted for daylight savings time

GMT daylight time

We are not in france. We are not in Spain. We are adjusted for LONDONS TIME (GREENWICH MEAN)

what i mean by this is people ask is it GMT or CET time. The leaders reply GMT. They do not need to be all 'oh well its actually GMT + 1 cuz i r teh pro!!!!1one' they just answer the question because everyone knows what they mean

It would be easier then to simply say 'UK Time' or 'Continental Time' - that way everyone knows exactly.

If someone said GMT to me, I'd correctly deduct an hour from BST and turn up then - the way I mentioned above leaves no room for misinterpretation.

Ohh i love a good flame :)

As you rightly say - check your PC it will say GMT adjusted for daylight savings.... this is NOT GMT, its adjustedGMT. Why not check the official GMT site -> http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ <-

as you said above, LONDON is not GREENWICH MEAN TIME

GMT site said:
UK is on British Summer Time (GMT+1)
and NOT GMT - GMT does NOT switch!

But having said that - its common knowledge that when people put GMT on a raid time they generaly are refering to uk time, and whats the worse that will happen ? you turn up 1hr early... not so bad :)

Note Hawkwind's location: Dubai.

He is in neither the UK's timezone nor the EU's timezone. If you're having to calculate relative times, it helps if people are accurate about what they mean...

GMT != BST

Danamyr's suggestion is, of course, the easiest solution. If you mean UK time, say "UK time". Don't say GMT, because that's just wrong. Saying that "everyone knows what they mean" or "ask what they mean if you aren't sure" is (as this thread proves) not always correct or possible.

Sorry for the rant on this one - I'm just back from business in Singapore (GMT+5) and Tokyo/Manila (GMT+4) and had to figure out how to call my brother (GMT+1) and my wife (GMT-5)! That was difficult enough without having to deal with incorrect information! :D

Hawkwind, you have my sympathy :)

interesting, so ppl in greece.which is on the continent fall into this 'contintental time' frame also? i think not. if ppl say somethin is at 7pm gmt they mean 7pm british time, stop being so awkward and use your common sense

Matteh, you call me a noob when you don't even know what GMT is! Or that GMT does not change and that UK time is not GMT. What the hell do they teach in schools these days. Very sad imo.

Educate yourself here:

http://www.worldtimezone.com/

Generally if attending I pm the raid leader and ask. Unfortunately I had a mishap with the car and managed to mis the ML1, 2 & 3. Basically I got home after a bad day in the office plus sorting the car out to find I missed it by 40 mins.

It's a technical point, if you mean UK time then put it. I have to work with people in Seattle, London, Paris, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. If you work like this on a dailly basis GMT becomes the baseline time standard you use.

I know people are using GMT as UK time. Just trying to point out that they are incorrect.

Where were U last night? ... U'r prolly lying in your own puke in a shrubbery(Monty ftw!) somewhere, but okey ... been there done that! :fluffle:
When ever U wake up, feel free to post what bar U been to! xD

Ontopic:
When I arrange a raid I write times in CET so I don't turn up late myself. I really don't care if U can't figure out what I mean in my original post ... simply don't show up or show up an hour early!

Hawk: st00pid post. It just shows that U 'think' too much on your own ... figure out if I mean it negative or positive, then U got something to do with your time when you are utterly n00bish and show up an hour early....

Then just think when they say GMT, that means UK time m8. I believe this problem is only in DAOC ml's raid?
The time is adjusted twice a year and that becomes a normal routine. People won't always think that becomes GMT+1 in the Summer and GMT+0 in the winter. That becomes a habit and won't really realised the incorrect part you pointed out, and again not all daoc player are businessman who always aware with difference of time around the world.

I totaly agree with Danamyr, that all BG raid leader should be more aware that there are many players from different countries and just say UK time or Germany time or whatever.

You did ask Persifal for BST time, and the next 2 raids he led, he always said Uk time.
I'm just sorry this happen toooften to you m8 :( i know it sux.

Greece is GMT +2 hours.

If using common sense means being factually incorrect then i'd rather not. It's a simple thing to grasp. I don't really see the problem with stating the 'correct' start time. Avoids any ambiguity whatsoever.
