Glossary? Noob help please!

I "had a go" at the beta on someone elses account at work a couple of days ago and I'm hooked. I want in. I need a WoW fix.
I can wait until the retail release but in the meantime thought I'd read these forums to get clued up.

Sadly this is proving impossible because, and I'm not being nasty, you guys and gals speak a completely different bloody language and I simply cant make sense of most of the threads here.

Nerf? Mezz? Theres shedloads more than I've forgotten already... What ARE all these things?
Has anyone seen a glossary of these terms? Can we have one in these forums? I've had a rummage and cant find anything but I'm not sure I'd even know what to look for.

This is a glossary that covers a lot of terms but there are always new ones and this misses out several already e.g. mes is short for mesmerise, a term from Daoc, meaning to make the monsters sleep and do nothing for so many seconds or until they are hit.

Although not present in Wow the Wow equivalent is 'sheep' where mages turn someone into a sheep for so many seconds instead. Both of these are a form of crowd control i.e. keeping a large group of monsters under control while the rest of your group gang up on them one by one.

I know i'm being picky but mezz is actually an EQ term, most terms come from UO and EQ and are used by DAOC players thinking they are the 1st etc

But yeah good info on that site, also if your a total noob and youd rather read a book then flick between diff sites the brady games guide is only £11 and i had alook at one and its the best guides i've ever seen for a game.

Just jump on in with both feet m8, if you dont understand something just ask, most people are friendly and will help out , when i first started playing DOAC I didn't have the first idea about Playing MMORPG's (still dont have much, hehe), but that was half the fun imo (in my opinion)

And yes, I fully intend to dive in the moment the shiny box arrives regardless of how clued up I feel I am. The rest will work itself out (or I'll be twatted back to the stone age) and is going to be part of the fun.

I think the beauty of this game is it had new gamers to this genre in mind. So the help in game, and the relatively easiness of the first few levels really helps you to pick up how to play and what you are supposed to do in game - if you follow the quests that is. The game also gives really useful tips when you first come across something new, so you will be clued up in no time!


EDIT: oh, and if following the official glossary guide, steer clear of this term: "Creep - Monster" Ugh!

And it is funny how wow can be played without understanding much about tactics, but to really play it well it does require that knowledge (atleast wailing caverns does (instance dungeon in barrens (lvl 17-23)).
