and so folks can check if things are available and for how much.

Like buying stuff through the ME costs (an exhorbitant 20%) extra, you
could buy/sell stuff on via a web-based ME. The money 'disappearing'
like it does when you buy through the ME.

Well... checking stuff from MEs is ok, since it doesn´t require a logged in character. However... buying/selling stuff (that´s the commission part) while being offline is another story. It would require some sort of pseudo-logged in characters and I doubt that this is a good idea for various reasons.

Opening up the system to the web for trading can only lead to mysery. Just think of all the little hackers out there who would trash everything just for a laugh. Not a great idea in my opinion.

They didn't have OMGZ FLASH chronicles either, but apparently they thought we needed that, since "it looks good".

Exposing the ME functions through XML would be cool but not enabling trading.
That way people could put a better front end on the searches and it would give me something to do when bored.

This would definitely be uber--just a "read-only" mode where you can look but not buy would be more than sufficient. I would love to be able form some proper SQL queries when searching for ROGs with nice dex caps, power pool and whatnot.

yeah - Like ME query - but not the "three-legged-horse" version
that Mythic provide.

Would be very handy to alleviate boredom at work.
