gfx or cpu lag?

anyone noticed a more "heavy" gfx lag from 1.52 -> 1.54 when for example entering jordheim or svasud faste? or places with many ppl. it lagged a bit with 1.52, but now its allmost insane.
its like the gfx locks up a few secs.. then its smooth until you enter a new area. i liked the way it worked in 1.52 much better.

maybe a trick to get ppl to buy SI for "improvements"? :p

Tons of people Spell crafting in city after patch means more for DAoC to draw and store in your memory when you zone in.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find many people who's computers don't have the jitters when they first zone into a city.

I've notices lag all over now Hibernian (excal) where I had none before.

BG seemed ok though for some reason.

I find the worst times seem to be when there are objects obsuring things. A lot of people that you can see doesn't seem to produce lag, but whenever there are people or other objects being hidden behind walls or terrain, there's lots of lag. I wasn't suprised to see it in Camelot after the patch, but it's also more common in other areas, from what I can see.

What you are describing is a symptom of texture upload. You are entering a region with lots of new textures and all of a sudden the old game engine has to get all the pictures up to your card in time. This usualy sorts itself after a few seconds once the textures have all reached the cache and no new objects are around. (often looking around for a sec will shake off the last creak or two) Its also the cause of the massive slowdown when another army suddenly jumps you.

I dont know why DAOC is so poor on this front, probably just cause much of the engine is bus lagged so badly (i.e. old). I would have though SI would sort this out as it really shouldnt be so much of an issue in these modern times, and im sure the improved textures in SI will require better texture upload routines that take some advantage of those fancy cards we all bought in the hope of improving frame rate...

and you have a completely different problem. Yours is fill-rate. Your game is slowing down when the engine is drawing large polygons, this is symptomatic of a low spec gfx card or bad drivers im afraid.

I'd better try some other drivers on the GeForce 4 4600Ti, then !

I think you are pretty much right about the terrain uploading thingy :D

I get massive lag now whenever I enter a city or Town, or a Faste in Midguard....

But last night I was xp'ing in the Middie Frontier, and ended up helping defend Fenslier (or whatever its called) Fatse with about 30ish other mids.....

There was a battle that went or for a good 5 mins that ended up on the top of a hill nearby and not once did I notice any lag... this was with 60 odd people running around...

Its improved since the last time I was involved with this many people in an RVR situation (ie before the last patch).....
