GFX glitch in games and windows

Recently a mate of mine has started getting these weird gfx glitches when playing different games and just idling in windows. Its a brand new card coz the old died. So I started worrying that it might be the mobo causing dmg on the card somehow. Is that even possible?

Its a GF6600GT, same as the old, but different company. We've tried different drivers for both mobo and gfx card.

Any help is very appreciated(mostly coz I sold him the comp )

Yes, they are called artefacts ask him to check the temp by going the NVIDIA cp and make sure he has proper air flow in the case.
