cleaned out the inside of the pc yesterday - getting rid of all dust, and now my gfx card fan (thats part of the card, its an old gf5950) is making a right old racket, sounds like theres somethin in it and its grinding away, has anyone experienced this before or know what could be the problem or how to fix?

i think its just offset slightly, looks like a pretty deinty little piece, but i dont want to start fooling around and break it etc

would the gfx card overheating cause it to generally run like an overworked fatman?

i can no longer duel log, i get about 5fps with one acc (and team-theurgist made me pc just whiff and die before) and its made the mouse jerky even in and around windows screen, also seems to be taking 5x as long to load up windows....

or is my cpu dieing as well?

that could be down to your fx over heating and going in to safe mode

its permanently in slow mode now, but i use to get a "there is not enough power being delivered to the gfx, your gfx card settings have been automatically lowered to accomodate this" msg

even when i load up old games i get like, normal fps, but it jerks every 1.5-2seconds still, and iv ran a complete cpu checker, and ram checker, and mobo checker, and gfx checker, and all components been stressed and results came back fine, even the benchmark tests were ok :<

so the computer thinks its running well, but well, it isnt :x

any other suggestions as to what it could be or how i could find out?

what did you stress test with ?
other ideas
it could be the PSU rail that you have your FX card attached to

Had the same ages ago on one of my rigs, had to change the PSU. Went from a 350 - 600W. What PSU you have now? how many HDD, DVD's etc?

did stress testing on an old sandra sisoft thing and also on some various other programs i grabbed off the net, also used a prog to defrag but its not just general pc being a bit slow problems, its a recurring fault of some kind that means the pc incurs a minor lag spike every few seconds when anything is asked of the cpu

psu is a 550 and its got one cd rw, then all the standards (one hdd one gfx card and motherboard stuff)- could be dodgy cables i guess

whenever you open up somethin like mozilla or w/e, just a random fairly low profile program resource wise, does your cpu always max out load on initial startup? my used ram space is never below 650mb/1024mb so its not the ram, its not a virus, iv run bit defender / kasperspy / avg / pconpoint / adaware and spybot- found some malware but nothing really destructive, and its clean now but still has the same problems

iv been checking any datadumps and replaced a dodgy .dll file i had, and re reg'd it, that hasnt made any difference

the rigs not overheating (50c), and SHOULD have sufficient power, its just still running awfully slow :<

do stress test with
prime95,
atitool(test for artifacts, can be used with Gforce aswell)
memtest86

will take about 2 to 3 days for them to fully stress test

other than that
check your HD status ie %full etc if poss enable SMART in the bios and check the results

isnt memtest run via a floppy disk?

ty for advice will give em a go :)

if nothing comes back is it safe to say pc components are healthy?

Most likely the ballbearings in the fan are on the way out, probably drying up and on the verge of seizing up. Either that or it is a sleeve fan in which case they don't last more than 2-3 years because dust gets inside and clogs up. Either way try cleaning the fan, if you get no joy with that then you are really looking at getting the fan replaced.

its safe to say the individually test parts are 90% lightly to be ok, but that does not mean that the problem isnt hard ware based but after i did some more reading around it could also be driver based

might be time to reformat and full reinstall
