Not spinning would indicate afault. You are probably best replacing it, or using some other kind of fan blowing on it, I'd go for the former of the two options.

Hi Clowneh!

Depending on the noise of your system in general, you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish the GeForce 4 4200 Ti fan from the general background noise. When the fan is running, keep in mind in will be going extremely fast, so much so that it may well appear as a mere blur or even seem to be not moving at all. If you can, run your PC with the lid off where you have a full, unobstructed vew of the system (merely pointing a flashlight inside whilst running can sometimes be misleading).

If the fan isn't running, then I'd be a little concerned. Whilst the new GeForce FX famly have a temperature monitoring system integrated into the hardware, I don't believe this is present in the older cards. Anyway, if it wasn't running, you risk damaging your hardware everytime you use your PC, especially in games which place a greater strain on your graphics cards (to be honest, it would probably have overheated by now and ten you'd definitely know something was wrong).

If you are absolutely sure it isn't running, then get in touch with the manufacturer or the retailer you bought it from, and ensure you get a replacement card.

Kind Regards

To be honest, I'm not really sure. My guess would be that it should be spin even when not being stressed, but like I say, I'm not sure. Try contacting your manufacturer's support team, since they'll know exactly what's what.

Kind Regards

Most GFX fans spin all the time, at the same speed.

Surely if it wasnt working it would overheat and this would have the usual obvious visual effects....or am I missing something?

i use really rubbish settings, rubbish for a gf4, rubbish for a gf1 :p

600.480, low textures, and the rest of it.

anyway, on closer inspection i found out that the fan isnt spinning cuz its clogged with dust. my heatsink is also clogged but the fan is working, and the case fan has loads of dust around it. this aint no ordinary dust. its fucking solid and orrid :(

i think ill buy a new heatsink and fan combo thingy and a gfx card fan, this should make the problem fixed but how would i stop or reduce the amount of dust that congests my system? u reckon its like that cuz i dont use the sides on the case?

help please

stick the hoover in there every few months.

can get filters to put over the fans too but you'd be losing a lot of cooling potential.

can't think of anything else practical really. other than getting an extractor fan installed into your PC room which should theoretically reduce the amount of airborne dust.

water cooling maybe?

what about little dust mites that feed on your dead skin, although then you'd end up with dust mite poo clogging the fans.

yes filters over your intake fans sounds most sensible. dunno where you get them though.

all the little bits of dust would still get through and clog up stuff.

you should give up and sell your PC.

and become a magician or something.

Steal some tights from your mum/sister and elastic band them over the intakes as long as you have some clearance on them you'll stop a lot of dirt getting in, just remember to give them a clean or they'll just get covered in dirt and cut down the airflow.

you could always get one of those de ioniser things for your room

A pc will always attract a certain amount of dust because of the amounts of static electricity they produce, leaving the side of your case off wont affect this because it will get in somewhere.

Actually cleaning your room once in a while will reduce the amount of dust. Get off your arse clowneh, it won't hurt you to do some chores around the house once in a while

yours in jest, Kam
