GFX Card Fan

My GF4 Ti4200 fan is too noisy :/
What's a good replacement fan for it? It needs to be a bit quieter but also needs to cool the graphics card enough so it doesn't blow up.

Any suggestions? (and links :))

Clowneh,

I have a Creative Labs GF4 Ti4400, and my fan was also too noisy. I took the plunge and basically disabled the fan and I've had no problems with it since, and this was over a year ago.

I don't condone or advise doing it, but it goes to show that it can be done. I'm sure the life of the gfx card will be reduced, but i'll be upgrading shortly anyway.

Heh, hardcore ;)
Anything with a bit less oomph?

Yeh, Big G, my card seemed to work fine when the fan stopped working, but that's dodgy and I don't wanna do it again :D

What size is the fan Clowneh? If its 50mm+ then try Quiet PC otherwise you could go for one of these also from Quiet PC.

I water cooled my pc including GFX card Northbridge and CPU. I used the Asetek system from overclockers. I can't really hear my PC much these days. The other day I heard a faint hum and it turned out to be something outside and not me puter. Also it doesnt seem to heat up much under load, say 45oC max core temp (not surface temp). Down side is the idea of pumping water in an electrical device. That still gives me the willies. Up side is quiet and also being able to O/C

I'm not too interested in overclocking, I just need the thing to shut up :)

Clowneh, remove your card and spray a bit of WD40 into the bearing part of the fan. Should quieten it. This worked for mine.

In my shuttle I have this on my Ti4200

Thermaltake Geforce 4 Copper Cooler

and since I wasn't using the PCI slot, hooked it up to one of these on low setting;

Thermaltake Slot Fan Speed Controller

Seems to work OK so far. I did find it seemed to run OK with fan disabled, but like you it made me nervous!

The power supply seems far the noisiest bit in the system. If anyone has any suggestions for a quiet replacement ...

I'd love to use the Zalman heat pipe, but I hear it won't go in a Shuttle.

I'm thinking of replacing the fan in the heat pipe assembly to with something like the

Vantec Stealth Fan (60mm)

just having the fan near somthing else can make it noisy, no matter how good your fan is...

if you hold a fan in mid air, its practclly silent, if you put a heat sink on it, chanses are it get louder... :(

Sorry to take over your thread but:

I just realised the fan on my 128mb Gefore 3 Ti 200 has packed in and I think the power connector for the fan on the card is not working also. I cannot fit that large heatpipe in because I have the PCI slot next to my graphics card taken up (and all my other PCI slots also) so anyone got any other solutions?

Have you tried powering the fan from the MB? If the power connector is also broken, its unlikely the fan is broke. Fans are mechanically very simple devices, nothing on them to break really.

even if the fan is brocken I still have the same problem and still need a small heatpipe
