GF4 ti4800 SE - A couple of questions

Hi :)

Just upgraded to a GF4 ti4800 SE. 100+ more fps in q3, yah!!! :D
Anyway .....

I cannot, for love nor money, find the slider bar for gamma or brightness in the display properties since upgrading! It was driving me mad for over an hour last night!! I used to be able to setup a seperate profile for gaming (with brightness much higher) and right click the thingy manager in taskbar to switch between this and my windows profile. I kinda found the profiles bit but there's nowhere I can change the brightness!?!?!?

Also, do I still need to download that refresh rate fix thing? I also recall that there was some registry file you could d/l which opened up new settings in display properties.

It's the Creative labs version of the card, using the 41.09 drivers from nvidia.com.

sttings/advanced/colour correction, from memory.

Although this option sometimes disappears when installing a new card. I forgot the fix but it's in here somewhere.

Usually the fix is to make sure you have removed the old dets before installing the new ones. Works for me anyway :)

settings/advanced/colour correction

yes that's where I thought it was too, but it's not for some reason :/

I followed the instructions for manual removal of old drivers from that nvidia unofficial FAQ site (you know the one). I would have used that program it refers to, but im in xp and it didnt indicate that it worked with xp

The gamma/brightness is in the nView module, you need that running.

Ah, thanks for the links. I do have nview running, so I guess it's an imcomplete removal of old drivers causing the problem. I will try the program(s) when I get home and install the drivers again.

OK this is a long shot but...

When you go to advanced properties do you have a GeForce4 Ti4800 tab?

If so then it should open a window with driver version information on it.

On the left of the window is a small green button with a white arrow in it. Click this.

I'm sorry if this is totally obvious, but it just might be it.

k thx again for replies.
Tried the programs, didn't work. They seem to find less files than when I manually remove them myself :/
I do have the 'small green button with a white arrow', which takes me to a further set of controls ...... but no brightness or gamma.
gah this is really pissing me off now :wall:

Ch@m,

Had the same problem as you.]

Only place I found to adjust the brightness/contrast etc was on the Overlay tab.

Unfortunately, this didnt seem to do much :(

I managed to solve it - by going back to older Dets ;)

Yes I found this when I first looked, but as you say, it doesn't appear to do anything. I think this is meant for something else entirely, although I'm not sure what.
What version of the drivers are you using now Laz?

Ive been thinking, and im not sure the 40.xx dets have that facility. What version you got cham?
If they are not, I found, as I said earlier , that not removing the previos drivers left me with the correct page for adjusting the gamma etc, you know with the girl in the rain hat picture, but no bars to do it with.
Must say, I dont bother with it anymore anyway, its either done in game or my flatron monitor can adjust it . :)

ok thanks laz

its the 41.09 drivers throd, from the nv webby.
I may simply go for the CLabs ones on the disk until the newest ones are fixed. It can't be right that those settings are simply not available surely.

Chameleon, do me a large favour please and try running UT2003 or Unreal2. Tell me if it crashes

Cheers

Okay back at home now I can give instructions, this is on XP Pro but I remember it was the same for 98SE.

Under Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> GeForce Tab, you'll get a little sidebar, if not there is a little green button on the left that will open it.

Choose nView Display Mode and then make sure the correct display is shown and use Device Settings -> Color Correction. The brightness and gamma sliders are in there.

nView may have to be activated first, this is done via Control Panel.

Thanks Xane, that's it, you got it. It's amasing how you can look through everything time and time again and miss something so obvious now.
