Considering they're around the same price range, which one would make the better purchase ??

You do know that your going to get loads of "save money for a GF460000000" or whatever, dont you?

I, on the other hand, have no idea at all, although Ive read that the MX blows goats.

hmmm... GF3 TI 128 meg DDR = £120.93
GF4 MX 420 64 meg DDR = £69.60 (unless you buy it from Game @ £119.99)
GF4 TI's are £185 and up...

GF3 it's gonna be methinks...

Or an ATi Radeon 8500LE for around £130. Though they aren't quite as overclockable as you might think, look at those Operation Flashpoint screenshots for details. Maybe if I fitted a better cooling solution...

Cheapest ATI 8500 I can find is £182.56 :/

Add the letters LE to the end, it's clocked at 250MHz instead of 275MHz, hence the cheapness.

i'd go with the ti200 - the mx420 is quicker horsepower-wise but lacks the pixel shader you'll need for modern games...

:D

Just checking. I'm (believe it or not) interested in your opinion on the ATi card against the other 2.

Apparently the GF4 MX is like a small horse, i.e pony ;)
The ti 200 gf3 on the other hand is an excellent card, I had one in my old pc never had any problems.

I dont rate it for the money - I'd personally opt for a Ti200 if i was buying new for that budget - but if I was lookin for a 2nd hand card the 8500 would be top of the bill..

The fact that you can get 128 Meg models with hardware DVD for £130 should make it a no brainer really :) I might get one over the summer.

AOpen AND Abit Ti200s with DVI and 128 MB are both £130 on Dabs at the moment. I've had an Abit GF2MX-400 since last summer and it's been great, but fucks with the Windows XP installer so I want to upgrade before I start hacking around with my set up :)
The Abit version comes with WinDVD too, which has always been nice to use :)
