Getting Cable, one question...

Hi i'm getting a cable modem install from NTL in two weeks!

But what sould i use to connect it to my computer with?

USB

or

Ethernet card?

Any help is appreciated, buying the card is not a problem, so i just want to know which is better for gaming.

I dont think it makes much difference seeing as the cable modem only works at 512/128k but personally I always go for the Ethernet.

I should be getting my CM installed on the 22nd of June and Telewest only offer it in ethernet form which is good since I can then attach a router/switch. I'm interested in the new SMC Barricade router which offers 3 10/100 ports, print server and also wireless connections.

Telewest offer the 3100 (ethernet) and 4100 (USB and Ethernet) surfboard CM's, which one you get depends on what they can be bothered to bring and what telewest area u live in. I did try asking for the 4100 to give me flexibility but they just refused.

Go for the ethernet if you can - there's a lot of problems with using the USB connection, a large number of OS/mobo combinations refuse to play ball with the USB.

definitely on NIC, as USB has this habit of having a "software" overhead and sucking some processing power, no mater what peripheral...

Absolutely - you have the choice, go with Ethernet.

USB has CPU overhead, just like using an internal modem. It will take CPU bandwidth which is the last thing you want went you're deep in an AHL session.
