getting a lower ping with more info

Ok i have a Celleron 400,
64 Mb Ram
2.5 gig hdd
56k v90 internal motorola modem
RIVA TNT video
Sound blaster PCI 128

OK - 56k Motorola internal = WINMODEM!!!
Motorola used to be a good modem manufacturer, but now they gone cheap! look - get 35 quid, go to http://www.insight.com/uk get yourself a Diamond SupraExpress 56i PRO, for just 35 inc. VAT. Then again - www.smcdirect.co.uk - 41 quid inc. there, but NOT OEM, and with FREE delivery. - I swear - compared to a winmodem - using this modem is likeplaying offline! Go get.

You could decrease yer ping using this modem - but it's still shite.

If ya want - set the RATE to 3200, use BW ISP (free), type ComXIRQY=1024 - where X is the COM port your modem is on, and Y is yer modem's IRQ no.

MM not sure what your talking about. The Motorola internal modems are ISA and NOT winmodems. They are mostly flash upgradeable to V90 if not already. I have one and can get pings of around 130 to UK servers. You shouldnt have any probs. Make sure you DON'T have vpn networking in your options enabled as this will slow your ping down.

with that modem you should be ok with a rate of 4000 and cl_maxfps of 40 with a half decent ISP, like ClaraNet, BT, C&W, Barryworld etc NOT AOL, Freeserve etc..

MM - it's winmodem if it's a Motorola PCI - he didnt say ISA.
BTW - you can get PCI motorola modems - I've seen 'em :Þ.
