It's very true,us Brits still live in the 40's when it comes to the Germans, only a few world cups ago, our team was shown in army hats in the papers when we were playing Germany.
Still as a workmate once said, he was listening to 2 German tourists admiring cakes in a shop window, they were no doubt saying
'what lovely cakes, I must buy some for the family',
but to him it sounded like
'take zem to za gas chambers!!!'
It's because we only hear the German language/accent portrayed in war films.
We really have to grow up.
