Saw a really interesting documentary about a genetic disease. After chatting to someone I live with who knew a fair amount about the subject, I'm keen to learn some more on the subject. The disease itself isn't important just looking for some good books along the lines of:

- Genetics
- Genetic Diseases

Don't care for the format either. Prefer informative not medical.

Personal recommendations please :)

Thanks for your time.

Stryers Biochemestry - Covers many many areas besides genetics wich it doesnt cover much, tho it gives a good understanidng of the mechanics behind genes and gene expression (wich are closely related to diseases)

But a looong and boooring book. Mostly for school - not for fun reading :(

If you are looking for a general scope of all genetic topics but still a light read, fun, informative etc then you should try the book called "The Selfish Gene" By Richard Dawkins. It's basically a genetic theory which has come to be basis of modern sociobiology. Alot of genetic topics which are not heavy readining tend to focus on behaviours etc, like The Naked ape triology by Desmond Morris (loosely genetic - zoology so) and such.

I wouldn't know of any good reads on especially genetic disease, i've only studied genetics on sociobiology/physchology/sociology etc basis.
