After reading the post about the lamer who stole the armour.
Always be careful about people claiming to be alts of people you know, we had a case of someone who claimed to a couple people including me that they were an alt of a main person in my guild, i was lucky being short G and the person was asking for bit too much to sound right, but couple people in good faith were tricked, lucky for us he didnt move money to another char and delete but carried on and then joined a guild. we got the money back in end even after he tried storys about using some of it. But he has not been online for several weeks which prob means he deleted and is using another name. So basicly always get a person to log into their main char to confirm who they are before giving any large amounts of G to anyone.
Another stunt was joining guild geting some good armour off us then joining another guild again luckly again this was delt with without too much hassle. Just two examples of what can happen, it shouldnt but it does.

Agree, all of us have to be very careful about our equipment now.

Best thing to do is treat DAoC like real life. Would you lend your car to a complete stranger if they asked really nicely? No, so to avoid losing all your hard earned cash/equipment just be safe and only give stuff to people you really trust.

Also with people training monsters onto you, take pictures, record the chat log, note times and locations. Everything you can to stop people like LaKKe for example spoiling all the time you have invested in the game.

Good luck guys and be careful

:D

hehe

Well okay, but if they stop just one nice person losing all of his/her equipment then all the stupid comments are well worth it.

:D

when you first join this game you dont expect to have to worry about people doing cheap tricks, your used to cheats in counterstrike etc, but that had its advantages due to so many being so lame they brought out better cheat catchers which on a lot of servers now auto ban which is even better. But normaly thanks to having to pay for this type of game you would expect slightly older people who might not act like a 3year olds. Someone reads this and remembers and just shows the next person an item rather than let them have it to hold and so not riisk losing it , any comments are worth it.

my brother has a very rare lvl 14 cloak stolen.... the muppet asked a lvl 1 to transfer it... the guy logged off with the cloak.... several of my guildes, including me had some harsh words.... didn't get the cloak back though :(

And well, most people playing are a bit more mature than the average CS player

Was in a guild/group with a pub owner from Barnet, a Bio Scientiest from Sheffield, various uni students, retail people, a marketing director of some used car retail chain

When would a pub owner be playing CS?

We've had all sorts of stupid scammers trying to get items and cash out of SotL, most annoying are the ones who pretend to be alts of main characters in the guild. I would encourage everyone to be aware of this.

On an unrelated note did you know you can kill members of your own realm with charged items?

No, it isn't that important to fix apparantly. Us in europe will have that bug for a LOOONNNGGG time.

A long time ago on a network far, far away, in a proto-MMORPG called WorldsAway run by Fujitsu on CompuServe, the community there used to have a similar problem. This is how Wired magazine reported it back in 1996. :)

This is most visible in the strange crimes that Kymer's tricksters and malcontents learned to commit and the practices the more law-abiding citizens have adopted to defend against them. For instance, while the wedding I attended was festive, its participants were also on guard against wedding bandits - raiders who crash the party, steal the valuable decorations on the floor, and run away. And then there are the headhunters.

Buying a head is the most prominent way to assert your identity in Kymer. Your choice of a head determines how other people see you. (It's not for nothing that in wedding ceremonies the bride and groom momentarily exchange heads.) It's no coincidence that heads are among the most expensive artifacts in Kymer's virtual economy of tokens. As objects of great value, heads also attract criminals.

The headhunters hang out by the docks, waiting for the boat that brings new users to Kymer. When a newcomer disembarks, the headhunter welcomes him with a friendly greeting. He gives the newbie a few hints on places to go and things to do. Then he moves in.

"Here's something fun," he might say. "Did you know you can take off your head? Try it!"

The newcomer removes his head. "So I can! That's pretty neat!"

"Here," says the headhunter, "let me show you something else. Give me your head."

You would think that most people would have the sense not to give something valuable, like their head, to a complete stranger. Judging from the number of headless avatars I saw wandering forlornly around the streets of Kymer, a fair amount of people do not. To combat the plague of headhunters, public-spirited citizens have started frequenting the docks just to warn newcomers not to give their heads to strangers.

None of Fujitsu's oracles came up with these solutions - or, for that matter, the problems. The users did. Douglas and Richardson don't see headhunting and thievery as problems that Fujitsu needs to solve. Indeed, they're signs of life: proof that the customers take what they're doing seriously enough to invent new ways, even creepy ones, of interacting. "We've had users ask us, 'Can't you do something about this?'" says Douglas. "And we say, 'What are you going to do about it?'

Aye but then we could be banned as well.

GOA told us that they would police these servers and ban those that try to disrupt the game for us. They kinda do and so we shouldn't have to take the 'law' into our own hands.

It would be nice if we could get revenge by making himn lose his equipment etc by killing him but it would just put you on peoples hit list the next time they go griefing.

Best thing to do is just report and get them banned, losing them the money they paid for the account. :D

Anyone who wants to transfer money among friends, should contact the friend using his main, before switching to the alt.

I have risked alot of items by asking unknown players to transfer them for me, but generally, I only look for guilded players. Another way to be sure, is to PM them and RP for a while. If they tell you to 'stfu' you'll know to keep away. But if they RP back and seem decent enough, it's a fair bet they won't rip you off.

hahaha thats a good one :)

for some reason alot of people seems to trust me, atleast im often asked to do transfers, and i havent said no yet.. but i do like to play a little joke on them :)

when they walk up to me with their new char, i stealth right before they reach me, then move a little, and begins to speak to them in /say (generally something like "you have to find me first") but they always get their stuff in less than 60 secs ;)

only bad experience i've had is with people giving me money along with items.. cause i usually dont see the money, and when they then afterwards claim that they gave me money too, it kindda puts me in an akward spot

I make sure I say the amount of items + gold

so if I'm transfering 2 weapons, 5 pieces of armor and 50g, then is 7 items + 50g

And I do my transfers in Gna Faste, and I generally only ask people in "fameous" guilds... or high lvls.

I had a beggar run up to me in a town the other day -

he had taken all of his armour off and was roleplaying out the down at heals rogue

So I gave him some money and told him to spend in on women, beer and fast horses ;)

Agree on checking the name of alt before they log and come back, just a basic precaution.

Have caught myself out with the money thing just like Blood.

Beggers: 90% annoying, 10% make you laugh and you cave in: 1 guy offered to sell me his training sword for the knockdown price of 1G. I asked if it was any good for slaying dragons and he declared it topnotch against dragons. When I got a look at the sword and realised it was actually genuine bona fida bronze I warned him he was undercharging and gave him 2G for it, just because he made me laugh :)

I just love people that come up to me and say:

' MONIES PLEASE'

' CAN I HAVE SOME MONEY '

' HEY YOU RICH DICKHEAD - GIVE ME SOME CASH '

' CAN YOU LEND ME SOME GOLD FOR SOME ARMOUR, I'VE ONLY GOT BLUE CON ON ' - level 4 stalker

I have one of thought, if people aren't willing to put the effort into hunting and creating a strong character via their own hard work, then they are likely to quit when the Dings!! slow down.

Thus meaning that my donation was a waste of money.

Sorry to go off topic :D

LOL!! Roleplaying a used car salesman! What a funny idea!
Glad you honored his performance with an extra gold, this guy is really worth it.
