Well I paid my $$$'s & found that instead of active BW servers there is only DAD's server(thank goondness & thank you) However I used to ping off 1-20 & was always assured of a good lively game(this still happens but only on aforementioned) Now minimun ping has dropped to 30-40(reasonable & I know some people will say lucky you) but that is hardly the point. I used to play BW at any time. Now it is only at peak sever traffic time that BW will give a good game (EF only of course) Shame, when 24 squid has been paid out. United(old ewetel) quite frankly is a far better proposition & it's free with the added bonus of enhanced pings for all (UK) following the server upgrade.
I can afford to waste the cash, but for those of u who can't, with regards to EF, really, don't try & tell me that it's now better than it was before, & think carefully before spending . I'm not talking about my own personal ping situation(hardly a problem I grant you) ; rather the amount & quality of gameplay. I suspect that for more mainstream games things will have improved dramatically. However I am an EF player and as such would like to have seen an immediate & noticiable improvement to the service(not that it needed one for me) rather than the reverse: just an observation & would like to hear the comments of those who have bitten the welder stream & stumped up their H.E.C(hard earned....)

I'm an EF only player as well and am also finding it very frustrating. A couple of times I have messed around in an empty server for over an hour (And1 for an hour really does your head in!) hoping that some others may join, I even posted to another forum stating a date and time I'd be on servers but still no-one turned up. From the amount of posts on various forums on the same subject there are a few of us about- just unco-ordinated. As you say thank heavens for DAD clan- great idea- long may it last!
United is great-just feel like i'm jumping through treacle, and you get the bonus of trying to move up the rankings- Will BW offer a ranking stats page now they've got my 'H.E.C.' I wonder? Could help get people in.

Hi Folks

I must agree with both your comments and also point out that I haven't subscribed to BW yet. From all the comments I have read about the service since it went p2p I am glad I didn't.

Again, like you two, I am an Elite Forces only player, did try others but I think most are c**p compaired to EF, and feel a little sad that BW seems to be pushing EF into the background. OK so there are still lots of servers but how long will it be before the powers that be decide that it is unecconomical to run a load of empty servers and start converting them over to other games.

The thing that bugged me more than anything is that I seem to remember quite a few posts regarding BW doing a CTF/Disintegration server and it was resisted for a long time in favour of 3 In2tagib servers. So when they decided to run a CTF/Disint server I was overjoyed and thought great at last a decent server to play on. Then a few weeks later, BANG, p2p is started and that server is unaccessable to me.

At the moment I mainly play on the [United]Kasmodiah server, which by the way plays great for me, and was going to move over to BW once I made the Hall of Fame on that server. This has now gone out the window because I will not pay for a BW subscription after all the bad things I have heard about the service of late. Lets hope things improve in the near future so that I can reconsider spending my money. As you say Chalky's_wife there is an incentive to play on the United servers and that is the ranking system that the use, the Hall of Fame and the skill rating that shows how well you are doing. This was something that I suggested in a post here quite some time ago but I seem to remember it being dismissed then as being too expensive and time consuming to implement.

Oh and 1 more thing, I have also noticed that my average ping on the bookable servers has gone up by 20ms too, it used to average aroung 50ms, and I get an awful lot of dropped packets as well. As has been said in earlier posts this is not a bad ping but some of the German players in our Clan have suffered a lot worse and seen their average pings jump up from 70-80ms to in the region of 200 and therefore making it almost impossibe for them to play on the BW servers.

OK after all is said and done I can fully understand the reasons behind the p2p idea and I know that it is something that was inevitable due to the amount of resources that running a service like this must gobble up. But I am sure that there could have been other things that could have been done before turning to the loyal players. How about selling advertising, no not on the web site but in game, I am sure that it would be fairly simple to have a small bit of advertising text displayed in the between map interval that is present in most games (especially those based on the Q3 engine). Well just a suggestion there.
