hi all,

Having returned from 3 weeks away from my pc I was welcomed to this -

screendump.JPG

so checked all my drivers etc but to no avail.

The only way it can boot up is via VGA mode.

It would appear my graphics card was shagged. It was one of the 1st batch of Geforce4 Ti4600 so is past its guarantee.
Has anyone come across this before?

Some techno info -

Any help would be appreciated before I have to shell out £400 on a new card.
Cheers

I would try the card in someone elses PC, to rule out that it ain't the AGP slot or motherboard.

The funny hatched pattern is very similar to the problem i had on my old Geforce 256 DDR; and like you, i could only boot in safe mode. The solution was to send the card back and get a new one, because the flaw happened on my mates PC too. The card was shagged.

Do you get any visual artifacts outside of windows? in the bios or boot screens?

Thanks for your reply - yes the problem happens during bios and bootup screens as well.
I have taken out the card and made sure that there is no dust etc, but all seems fine.

I will wait till the weekend and try it out in another machine.

You sure its out of guarantee?

Some vendors offer longer periods than a year, send them an email to see if they can make an offer...

BTW is that a print screen? Cos if it is how can it be the gfx card as it will be a virtual screenshot

I used to have an old gf3 do the same on my pc, Most off the time a reset would make it go away. Then i gave the card to a friend for testing on his pc and he is still using it an no more problems ... never figured out what caused it :(
