Jeez, just played Piranesi, first map in a week, i had 99fps constant, but it just felt like it was running slow, it screwed my eyes up.. then i noticed Choke was 70.. then it went down, then went all crazy...

My eyes are wrecked now :/

If the fps isnt thesame as your refresh rate the picture can get distorted. Its like having vsynch off. I really dont know why everyone has this orverwhelming urge to see 99 fps . You aint going to get it 100% of the time i dont think.
Id recommend setting your refresh rate at a given setting, the the max_fps to suit. This aint Quake 3 m8, it dont really matter :)

your pc's pretty much the same as mine Emb. I reckon I probably could as well. Most people cant!
To avoid distortion and "warping" you'd be better off sticking at the refresh rate. If your fps goes down to 80 Gray, cap it at 80. It'l be much smoother. But make sure the refresh rate is 80 also.
To improve the choke situation check your rate settings etc. Mine are for isdn, but are set like this;
rate "7500"
cl_updaterate 40
cl_cmdrate 55
cl_latency "-39"
cl_cl 0
cl_wl 1
Blagged shamelessly off Jobbie, whom they seem to work for quite well, as Im sure you'l agree. Personally looking at that I was say my rate was a bit high for ISDN ,but there you go, it works so I'll stick with it :)

It might be down to the fact you've not been near a PC for a week Gray. It happened to me when I went on holiday for a fortnight last year, came back and went to play some Q2 and it was really really fucked. Gave me a headache. Oh, you should just get used to it - if not, something is borked :)

Bah.

You're all pussies.

I learnt my trade on a PC that had an 8meg ATi Rage card (not even a Pro) that could just about hit 30fps on a good day :p

This card is shite..

Everytime i run round a Corner (on ANY map) any player there just vanishes for like, 3seconds, then appears elsewhere (my ping is stable - so not Net Lag).

I get 100choke when going into battle (Over 70 usually)

My fps stays stable thruout this

its pissing me off, i pay £115 for this card and my old card (Worth £30) looks better, and i dont get much choke

And the bastard Manual is in French its just so annoying

If it helps m8 I am 99.99% sure that your video card cannot have any effect on choke. If Im wrong then please someone point it out, but Im bloody sure Im not.
Your ping can be stable, but you can still suffer the symptoms your on about. Choke is the effect of the net connection being "strangled" by too much imformation , and dropping packets , thus causing the problems you are suffering.

ps if any of this is wrong can someone else enlighten me? Tbh, Im pretty sure Im right though.

for reference low fps can give you choke afaik, but it's more likely to be the connection :/

How was it possible for this thread to go on so long before anyone even dared to mention that choke has nothing to do with his gfx card?

Gah! Muppets.
