Had the same problem with my Geforce DDR, and typing in the following in the console sorted it:

/r_ignorehwgamma 0
/r_overbrightbits 0
/vid_restart

You should then be able to use the brightness slider.

/r_ignorehwgamma 0
/r_gamma 1.3

works fine on geforce 2 gts

SimBob - you have further joy with the GTS2 on the Chaintech mobo ?

Reckon the Radeon worth a try ?

doh. sorry, bids .. thought I posted the reply from chaintech here (can't remember now tho .. so I probably forgot :()

Basically .. last I looked the mobo did not support AGP2 which the later GeForce drivers demanded. My eventual solution was a buy a new mobo :(

Chaintech did say that they were "looking into" some kind of solution for users of older boards like the 6BTM, but I think it would have to be pretty radical, because it's a hardware change, not just a bios flash or anything.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news :(

---
just dug out their mail .. luckily I had it here at work ..

This problem seems more to do with the revision of AGP slot.

The VGA card in question requires a rev 2.0 AGP slot to be 100% compatilbe. The 6BTM has a rev 1.0 AGP slot. So my first question would have to be does the card work 100% in a revision 1.0 AGP slot. As the required specs are different I would have to say it is a bit of mixing the old with the new.

On the other hand the system will boot up using no drivers or even Nt drivers.

Nt has no/limited AGP support, so when using these drivers the card is not being usd to it's full X4 AGP potential, so not drawing the power from the m\board. Win 2000 has AGP support, so when Win2000 drivers are used the card is
attempting to use it's full potential of X4 AGP, this requires a certain amount of power from the m\board that the m\board cannot comply with because it adheres striclty to rev 1.0 AGP slot specifications.

The workaround for this is to use the NT drivers, although giving limited support for the AGP card, you get a working system. As the required specs are different from what the board has it is incompatible, but a bit like saying that it is incompatible with a BBC 'B'. Of course it is not, it is,
as mentioned earlier, a bit of mixing the old with the new.

We are though currently investigating a way round this for the popular BX chipset based 6BTM, but it may not be possible as it would mean a h\ware modification, not a bios update that would cure it, or some updated drivers from VGA card manufacturer, as previous Nt drivers work OK.

Regards.

Heh you might as well move to AMD rather than the P4 :)
