got a creative ge-force 256 ddr
put it in my machine p3 450
mobo gigabyte ga-6bxe rev 1.9
and got it working
but after 2 to 9 mins i get an alarm
that sounds like an old (uk)police car siren.
get the alarm if i just leave it idling in win98 and or play q3a
the fans are running
and the machine works fine with my old agp graphics card installed

venturer (sco) :(

It's probably a temp monitor setting an alarm off... have you got any temp monitoring software on? If so, you may need to modify the +% in dec C that it allows before setting the alarm off... I too have a DDR geforce, and they warm up nicely (specially when u overclock it to fuck like me :D )

An easy solution - disconnect the PC speaker :)

Unless its a BIOS alarm...

If so u need to go into the BIOS and set the CPU temp warning range higher ( i think mine is about 50 oC)

hi
phoned creative but will phone them again
and tie down an answer
i have no temp monitoring software Tug,
that i know of , i do like the cpu twin cooling fans.!.i saw on a site you have a connection with.
bios alarm well it's set to shut down at a
cpu temp of 75'c and it's temp when in bios is 35'c with the 16 meg agp card and the fan speed is 5443 rpm.
i will plug in the ddr and go into bios
and check the cpu temp.
but i think i will have to give the ddr back
and get a full and total refund as it's not fit for use. as a plug a play device.
also had the case of the machine to see if the fans were run , and thats under a open window it was very cold but my head was fucking boiling.
not happy by the way.

I had a rev 1.9 6BXE and had huge problems getting my Geforce to run on it.

It looks like the rev 1.9 boards dont supply enough power to the AGP slot to power a high end graphics card. The rev 2.0 boards added a jumper to allow a boost to the AGP voltage but that aint much use.

If this is your problem your choices seem to be, buy a new mobo or try a high risk hardware hack..

FAQ on the problem: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/christopher.hill/faq.html#hw:gef:troub:inst:bypass
Hack details: http://www.cyberwizards.com.au/~leppy/6bxe/bypass.htm

Personally I board a new mobo (MSI-6163 Pro) and the Geforce now works like a dream, but I wont EVER buy a Gigabyte board again...

okay
ta so
the mobo could be my problem
going to try putting it in again
and checking bios
also gona try some monitoring software to see if the main cpu is overheating
if it's not i will switch off the high temp alarm
? ANYBODY ? IF IT IS AN AGP LOW POWER PROBLEM
COULD I SUPPLY THE GRAPHICS CARD'S FAN FROM A SPARE POWER LEAD FROM ANOTHER PART OF THE MACHINE ?
