Sorry Neatha if I came across belittling.

The point I was making was poorly illustrated. Forget maths.

Someone who knows *their area of expertise* should be able to explain it to your average Joe in the street without quoting verbatim from google or using esoteric jargon.

Another point - academics. Have you ever realised that a lot of Professors don't use the word "umm" or "err" when they're talking about something they teach ?

I guess it all comes down to being confident in what you talk about Lamp.

I mean I've onyl just started a new job and I feel like everything I say has at least one um or er in it! But ask me to talk about complete crap - my area of expertise - and I barely even pause to draw breath!

8.2ish %, most points prolly earned by having watched some darn movies :p

thus, I am no geek, even though i prolly could have been one if some gaming geek made the test :p

9.07298% - Geekish tendencies

But I think the test has some flaws. I mean what's wrong with knowing many languages =) That's more likely to get you friends, no? =) Also, remembering a shortcut like dpi or http:// is not really hard work :p

Thats ok, can't stand my job anyway :D

Despite using maths and chemistry every day, I'm much more interested in the socio-economic and strategic impacts on the environment rather than the technical ones, so I'm looking for a new job :)

I just hope I don't have to go back to Uni and get an MSc in order to get there.

Out of curiosity has anyone (reading this thread that is) gone back to do an MSc/MA after ~2 years working to further their career, if so, was it worth it?

finally put my eyes through the torture of reading that horrible page and came up with:

40.03945% - Major Geek

I had hardly clicked anything until the 'have you read...' section and then it all went to shit :/

You could always do an OU course. Although you'll have to wear National Health spectacles and grow a bushy brown beard ofc :p

I haven't done an MSc or MA but after three years of being a journalist I had to go do an industry standard training course which was, of course, mostly theoretical rather than practical experience.
It wasn't easy having to go into a classroom for a law lecture and being told you weren't allowed to say anything because you should already know the answer having done the job for three years etc.
