Just taken delivery of one of these:

http://www.virustrap.co.uk/gatelock.php

Installed it on my network and it works a treat - Anti-virus (including e-mails), NAT, DHCP server, Firewall - all for £125 (ex. VAT). Got my dedicated gateway/firewall machine back too :)

Well worth a look if you're on broadband.

My router does have built-in NAT firewall security and this topic reminded to check the log:

22 July 2002 21:09:48 Unrecognized access from 193.38.113.34:49012 to TCP port 119

^These appear a couple of times every day so I wondered what the orgin IP was and it is:

scanner.abuse.blueyonder.co.uk

Looking for SMTP (25), NNTP (119), SOCKS (1080) and...nope, not a clue what 6588 is.

Scanning for stuff you shouldn't have, after spam blacklisting and the Usenet death penalty was almost implented.

Figured as much...I believe 6588 is HTTP.

BTW Gatelock got 5/6 in PCPRO.

Nah, HTTP is 80.

Little bit of research - 6658 is the port used by AnalogX proxy software, so pretty similar to scanning for SOCKS.
